Okay, here I am, running a rifle stage in a little homegrown 3-gun match I shoot, I'm blazing away, all of the sudden, failure to extract... IAD, clear, another FTE... again and again. I've cleaned the bejeezus out of everything, switched bolt carrier groups, still won't extract, empty cases and live rounds bothget stuck in tight. Okay, now I've pulled the barrel, cleaned even more of the bejeezus out of the chamber, can't see any sort of foreign object in there, everything looks cool, but rounds still stick in the chamber, and have to be tapped out from the front. So WTF? I know just enough about the AR system to be dangerous, and just enough to know that chambers don't become spontaneously undersized. Do I have a broken shell in there and just can't see it? Any help would be greatly appreiciated, and I had to shoot the rifle stage yesterday with my pistol, and it wasn't pretty. hanks, DanO |

Come on, it's a true test of your skills to run the rifle course with a sidearm!!!!! With the cases, both live and spent binding in the chamber, it's time to give the chamber the best cleaning of it's life. Start out with copper solvent and a chamber brush by hand. From there, run dry patches until it comes they come out dry. Next soak a 30 cal mop in CLP and using in/out stokes via the mop on a few cleaning rod and spun by a drill, get the last of the fouling that you may have missed. Note: if you do find that you have a cracked case wedged in the chamber, a cleaning rod down the muzzle out the back of the receiver, a 30 cal brush installed and pulled back into the chamber tight against the remaining piece of case, then a good blow to the handle back down the muzzle will remove it. Now in regards to the next event, that is unless you want to re-run the rifle course with a sidearm and the rifle just clanging around your back by the sling, run the upper bearng surfaces a bit more lubed with CLP, and try to stay will current production ammo that burns more on the cleaner side. |
