I'm having a bizarre failure to feed issue that has got me stumped.

Upper reciever is a mix master with a Colt chrome lined, 1/9 twist, heavy barrel and m4 ramps that was chopped from 16" to 14.5" and had a vortex put on. Lowers have been both a standard Stag with CAR stock, standard spring and H3 buffer and a CMA lower with A2 stock and buffer. Barrel, receiver, and carrier are used. Gas tube and bolt are new.

Magazines I'm using are CProducts SS 5.56 mags, D&H mags with green followers, D&H mags with 2nd gen magpuls, and Center mags with magpuls. Ammunition is EVERYTHING from AE .223, Wolf .223, Wolf M193, Federal XM193, and a couple others I've tried. It has the same failure rate regardless if I am using 5.56mm or .223 ammunition.

Whats going on:

This is half way random it seems. Sometimes I can go through two or three mags with no problems, other times it'll fail every other round. It always fails to feed on the RIGHT feed ramp. It doesn't jam up per say, it just fails to feed all the way into the chamber. If I bring the bolt back and release again, woila, it works. Now, the problem only occurs within the first 15 rounds in the magazine if its going to show itself. If I load all my mags to 15 rounds and run them through the gun real fast, I won't have any failures, but if I load them to 28 I start getting issues.

Stripping everything apart, it all looks okay. I am baffled

How many rounds through the gun?  Sounds like a weak buffer spring to me right off, but could be other things too.

Spring is brand spanking new, lower has exactly 270 rounds on it that I put through it today. I bought a new complete lower to test. I put another 240 rounds through it on the A2 stocked lower and same thing.

Pull the recoil spring and take a stone or file to the ends of the coil winds to make sure that end point is not scrapping down the inside of the buffer tube.  Now before you put the spring and buffer back in the tube (receiver extension), make sure to lube these parts with CLP.

If lubing and cleaning up the spring doesn't help, you need to look into a new recoil spring since yours may be weak to begin with.
