How can you tell for sure?

I have a set of Front / Rear I suspect are not OEM. Seems like it has been covered many times but I don't see much from a search.

Suspicions:
1. Rear of both sights have an left hand arrow with the word UP beside the arrow.  <---UP
2. Both the front and rear use a 3mm hex wrench for install / removal
3. Rear sight "seems" wobbly when deployed

All in all they look good, but I don't have the real thing to compare these too. I've looked at various pics on the internet and I wonder if half the pics on the web might be fakes too.

Look fake to me.  All the rears I've seen have verticle scale lines where yours yours say <-UP

Definitely fake.

Is the sight post steel?

Also, if the bolts are allen heads, they will say "Magpul" on the head.
They later went to flat head bolts with no lettering.

I had a similar issue from the EE, someone got permabanned over it...

Black is real, Tan is fake:

Is the sight post steel? Sight post is not steel. Sight post is also prevented from being turned until a set screw is turned all the way down flush or removed.

Also, if the bolts are allen heads, they will say "Magpul" on the head. No letters on hex bolt heads.
They later went to flat head bolts with no lettering.

Yeah, that rear is absolutely fake. Why would a windage adjustable only rear say <-UP? It wouldn't...

This.

They are fake. One of the biggest things is looking at the lock up points. When they're in the up position, there should be absolutely no movement and the locking lug if you will should fit perfectly.

I had a thread similar.

Usually another good indication of whether they are fake or not is where you bought them from....dare I ask where you got these?

Fake sights. Rear sight should definitely not say UP.

They came from the EE. Seller and I talked about the possibility of them being fake before we went through with the deal.

I notified the seller yesterday when they came I didn't think they were real but wanted time to check them out. He's agreed to a refund if they are indeed not legit.

Those are definitely fake. For a comparison, here are pictures of real ones from different angles:

Notice that the real ones same MBUS on the sides, the rear sight has hash marks NOT "UP" and that their are no plastic mold marks on the real ones. I don't know what your screws look like from the angles you provided but you might check those as well. Also, the front sight post on the real ones are steel and they adjust the same as a standard front sight post. Also, if you received all of the packaging you should have received the front sight post adjustment key that magpul provides with all front sight posts.

I hope this helps.

You're looking at Gen 2 MBUS, different animal.

Ah... that is true. Well that's embarassing... lol I DID have the Gen1's before and if I remember correctly they still do have the hash marks on the back of the rear sight.

Thanks for the correction on that.
