Take a look here
I havent seen one for less than $50, and I know that if it sounds too good to be true it probably is, and I also have heard of knock-off vortex's. So is this thing fake? Is there a sure way to tell? It's wierd though because they have a really crappy price on a phantom right there.

Most likely a copy of a Vortex, there's hardly any slant in the prongs.  I've never seen a real one go for that low, even with the discount, Brownell's sells it for more.

I purchased a couple from Ameetec Arms for like 25 bucks...I didn't like it, so I sold it off somewhere... I never bothered to try it out at night...aww well.

now that I look closer it just doesn't look right. The tips are kind of rounded and your right, there is not nearly enough slant. Maybe someone that can host these can post the pics next to each other?
real vortex
I'm sure Grant won't mind the link right?

I got one of those at a gunshow for $20. It isnt a real Vortex, but I thought it was pretty cool for $20.

The seller should give you a clue, Gunsmoke Enterprises, a former vendor on this board that left in disgrace.  The Vortex shown is a knockoff of the G5 which is no longer made by Smith Enterprises and the Phantom is an old design that is no longer made.  I guess this is what gives the knockoff artists free license to copy these, albeit badly.

If any of you guys want real Vortex's, I've got two brand new ones I'll let go for $45 a piece plus shipping.  Slightly older models, though not the type that bends out.  One has the o-ring cutout on the front and the other does not.  I have pics floating around here somewhere if anyone wants to see them.

Interesting. I don't understand how these kind of guys can stay in business, fake vortex's and old style phantoms for $30. If you look around the rest of the sight pretty much everything is overpriced.

They stay in business because most people don't do any research before they buy something.  The world is full of suckers.  How do you think "Miss Cleo" brought in half a billion in revenue?
