What is your favorite/preferred grease to use on ARs? Specifically, what do you use on the barrel before placing it into the upper receiver? Why do you like it? What are you observed results?

Anyone use Mobil 1 Synthetic grease for barrel installs? I've got tons of it sitting around so if it's good to go, I'd like to use some. I use it on everything! I run pistons on everything and this is why, so i can grease the internals and never have to worry about it cooking or running off. Since I have it already I've used it on many barrel nuts and amazingly the guns have not disolved, broken, crumbled, or fallen apart. No doubt Aeroshell is the standard, but how many other milspec things on an AR do we upgrade because milspec isn't "bestspec?" |

I use Royal Purple High Temp grease. I have tons of tubes at work. So for Free dollars and Free cents that my grease of choice. Also because I use it on a gas turbine where valve stems and things are above 500 degrees it never gums or drops off or out of places.

I use Brownell's barrel assembly paste.

The brownells barrel paste is GTG. I'd used it for years on customers guns, and my own barrel installs. Rebarreling after 10k + rounds, showed no change in the appearance of the grease on my own barrels.
Allows for proper torque and no galling, seizing or corrosion noticed. Price is okay as well. |
