| Has anyone tried this yet? I want to run it through a 16" 1 in 9 barrel. |
|
Excellent performing bullet. I would prefer it at 5.56 velocities, but it will still preform very well.
Follow the link to the bottom of the page for a ballistic gel photo.... http://www.federalpremium.com/products/brands/fusion.aspx And Molon's report.... about a third of the way down... http://www.ar15.com/mobile/topic.html?b=3&f=16&t=489674 |

Quoted:
The original fusion (with a picture of antlers on the box, not an AR) will consitently do a 1.5 MOA 10-shot group at 100 yards from my 20" BCM gov't barrel. I just bought 8 boxes of the MSR stuff. I hope to God it's the same thing. Fusion says 3,000 FPS. Fusion MSR 2750 FPS. |

Federal 62gr Fusion, #223FS1, 3000fps, 24" test barrel Federal 62gr Fusion (MSR), #F223MSR1, 2750fps, 16" test barrel Speer 64gr GDSP (LE), #24448, 3000fps, 24" test barrel Same thing. It expands below 1800fps. It doesn't need to be fast. Still giving full expansion at 200 yards from a 10.5" SBR. |

I believe the only difference is the picture on the box and showing the ballistics for the more applicable 16" AR barrel. |

I contacted Federal about this not too long ago. While I deleted their actual response, they said something along the lines of (paraphrasing): "The MSR and standard Fusion use the same bullet. The differences are that the MSR using a faster burning powder to produce better velocities from a 16" barrel, while the standard Fusion was designed for a 20 inch or longer barrel. The MSR also has a mil-spec primer for use with AR-type free float firing pins"

yeah, I compared a regular "antler head" Fusion round to a MSR round and they are not externally the same. The bullet looks to be the same though. MSR has a sealed primer. The MSR did not seem to have the same level of accuracy out of my 20" BCM that the standard fusion load does. but I have yet to shoot them side by side for a direct comparison. I'm guessing that the powder and charge is different |

The Fusion MSR is what I'm currently using in my HD gun (1/8 twist, 16" barrel, mid length gas system).
What is everyone's opinion for using this ammo for an HD role? ETA- Never mind, reading is fundamental. |
