I plan to buy a case or two of ammo at the show this weekend, and the best deal I have seen there has been on Federal XM193 - 5.56mm M193 Ball - 55gr.  Is this decent ammo as far as accuracy and reliability?  I own 2 RRAs, and I've shot this ammo a little, but not enough to form an opinion.  The only other ammo I have experience with is Fiocchi .223, it seems pretty accurate but it's costs a little more.  The potential ammo crisis is giving me severe anxiety, I really don't have the funds to buy alot, but I feel I have.  Any input is appreciated.

could someone at least point me in the right direction?  I read something about this ammo being marked "PD" or "non PD", what's the difference?

Brown box or Black box?

Either way it's good stuff.

What price did you find it for?

It comes in 500rd brown box, with 20rd brown boxes inside.  At the last show it was about $200 for 500rds or $380 for 1000rds.  I want to buy 1500 rds, wish I could afford more.  Any other place to get a better deal?

M193 from Federal is a proven round. If you want to stash some for a crisis, you can't go wrong with this round. The PD is supposed to be a lower tier of quality, but I've never had a problem with PD labeled rounds.

On a slightly different note, if you can't afford the ammo, don't put yourself in debt buying it. If you can swing it, great. It's never a bad thing to be adequately prepared, but you can't eat ammo, so make sure your other needs are covered before you part with your hard earned cash. Just my 2 cents.

XM193 is good stuff, and top tier M193.

As for the difference between XM193 and XM193PD, go here:

Everyone talking about the price going thru the roof or having it even possibly become unavailable is worrying me.  Without ammo, my beloved rifles are worthless IMO.

Well then that justifies the purchase, imo. Convincing me to purchase ammo is not a hard sell, I'm an addict.

Local Dealer had been selling for $189 for the black box 500rds, but at the Arms show last Saturday I saw it for $229. now the local Dealer is sold out.

For SHTF ammo or ammo that you are going to trust your life to, buy XM193, Winchester Q3131 or Hornady TAP.

For plinking ammo, there is cheaper stuff out there.  Even if you don't want to shoot Wolf (I have no problem doing so), there's good deals on brass cased stuff too.

This is a good site to compare prices, although stuff is sometimes out of date:
