So I've got an 11.5" carbine length AA piston rig. Love it, and it feed EVERYTHING.

Yesterday I went shooting with my brother and my brother-in-law.  Both had just recently built their own piston setups and they were trying them out.

One was a 16" middy with an AA kit, and the other was a 14.5 middy with an AA kit.  Both fed everything fine, except Tulamo.  The stuff wouldn't cycle.  Each cycle would eject the spent case, but it wouldn't pick up another round.  But american eagle, PMC and other cheaper brands fed fine.

Thoughts?

Tula is "more" under-powered than the rest. That combined with a heavier buffer might cause the cycling issue. Try switching to a lighter buffer when using the Tula and see what happens.

My piston gun has problem with polymer coated ammo like Tulamo or Wolf, but the gun works great with brass (pmc, american eagle) or brass coated (golden bear)or lacquer coated ammo (Wolf or golden tiger, but wolf made in ukrain works better because of thicker lacquer and hence "slicker" surface).  Some blogs have suggested putting a thin film of oil using a oil rag on the poly ammo to make it feed better, but prefer not to do this until last resort.

I don't believe this has anything to do with a coating. Just the ammo itself.

Tula and Herters are notoriously under powered. You can get them to run in your gun. You will need the lightest buffer you can get, as well as possibly a lighter buffer spring.

May be worth starting with a new buffer spring. Than a lighter buffer if your not already running the lightest available.
