Does the "fence"  on the right side of the lower, around the magazine release, add any real strength at all?  I have a chance to pick up my choice of preban Colts - one made in 1991 without the fence, and one made in the early part of 1994 with the fence.  Both are near new, and that is the only difference I can see.  Slabside or not?  Which would you pick?  Thanks

The fence is not for strength - it's to prevent accidental activation of the magazine release.

That's it? What is your preference of the two?

I prefer the fence.  Why not, as it's an upgrade?

Though if you wanted to build replica's of some early model M16s/XM177s then you'd need the lower w/o the fence.

Get the one with the fence.
