I am in the process of deciding if I am going to build a new carbine or rifle upper.  I am struggling with figuring out how barrel weight/contour is going to impact my choice?  I want a LIGHT rifle, no sustained full auto stuff or hordes of muslim whackos in the area, so far?  With a flat top, UBR stock, factory type front sight & Troy Extreme tube, what kind of barrel weight or profile do I need to get sub 6lbs on a carbine or 6.5ish lbs on a rifle?  That is a clean weight too, no bolt-ons except maybe a rear sight. Thanks

You want a light rifle, but you're using an UBR?

You'll probably need a LW or pencil profile to get it under 7lbs.

No experience with the UBR, but if your going for a light weight rifle, I'd go with some other style of stock.

It doesn't seem like the UBR would balance the weapon out, and it would be stock heavy.

My .02.

BARREL:
Lightweight (A1) profile middy-gas or carbine-gas 16" or 14.5" (w/ pinned Vortex).

STOCK:
Replace the UBR with a
1) CTR or
2) old-school CAR stock or
3) CavArms lower

Good luck and don't forget to POST PICS!!
