Finally got my first AR built.  I have to admit: I'm in love.

I wanted to thank everyone here for all the help.  It's really an amazing resource.

I built the lower last weekend and the upper just came in today.

I have an RRA lower, which I've read are super tight.  I did have to give the upper a bit of a thump with the rubber mallet to seat it and I had to do the same to the takedown pin, but I'm confident it will loosen up enough after shooting to work by hand, but still give a snug fit.

Anyway, here she is.  Nothing fancy.  RRA lower, Del-Ton LPK and stock, Stag upper.  Cost was $775 without mags.

I'm probably going to put a MIAD grip on it, but for now I'm really enjoying the classic look.

Thanks, guys.

The irony is, this gun was a project to help me cure my instant gratification obsession.  The plan was to slowly build it up over time.

Not only did that not work (I was dying this past week waiting for the upper), but I've got the bug now and I can't wait to build the next one.

Actually, my next big buy is going to be ammo for sure.  I need to break this one in.

Congrats.

Welcome to the Black Rifle Disease club, your second AR build will be very soon before you know it.

I also have a RRA (upper and lower with a tight fit) and I just ordered my Stag Arms stripped lower from my local dealer today for my next project.

Very nice, which RRA upper is that? It seems that the RRA and Stag finishes are nearly identical.

How come you didn't go w/ a stag lower?

Thank you.

It's a Stag upper, not RRA.  The lower is RRA.  The Stag upper is the 1H.

I set out to build this on a budget, so originally ordered a DPMS lower from Del-Ton.  My FFL crapped out on me, though, and that was about 10 days after I'd ordered the lower.

I was pissed that I'd waited so long and hadn't heard from him, so I cancelled the order and checked my closest shop.  They'd just gotten some of the RRAs in and the price was the same when factoring in the transfer fee my FFL was going to charge me.

I looked at the RRA uppers, but none of them were just what I wanted and the wait seemed long.  I found this Stag for under $500 in stock, so went with it.

The chamber doesn't seem to be chrome-lined, which kind of bugs me.  Someone on here told me the Stags were.  I might have ponied up the extra money for a different one if I'd known they didn't beforehand.  Not a huge deal, though.  And it's a reason to build up another.
