I amassed these parts several months ago but was building has been put off because of other priorities. Now that I finally have had some time to myself, I knocked out my first pistol build. This is the first AR that I've completely built from the ground up, as I had never assembled an upper receiver before. I did muck up the first YHM barrel nut (using my DPMS wrench instead of my YHM rail wrench - whoops!), which Kevin from Bright Flashlights was kind enough to furnish for a great price within a few days. I also nicked the lower (something that I've avoided until this build lol) in a few spots during assembly which is ok. Adds a little character Range report is going to be awhile though as the weather here in northern IL has been insane!

Parts used are:

Spikes Zombie lower
RRA 2 stage LLPK
Phase 5 pistol buffer tube
Aero Upper
PSA Lower Build Kit
Surplus Arms 7.5" Barrel with 1x9 twist  (didn't feel like dropping an extra $100 on a SS Blackhole Weaponry barrel)
YHM low profile gas block
YHM 9.2" Lightweight Quad Rail
Noveske Flaming Pig Flash Suppressor
Magpul Back Up Sights Gen 1  (bequeathed from another rifle that got the newer gen 2's)
BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle
Young Manufacturing Chrome M16 BCG

I think that's it. A Magpul grip and trigger guard arrived today which I will be installing later. As soon as more black AFG2's arrive at AIM, I'm snagging one of those as well.

You're welcome! About a year ago I saw a similar thread by a dude named Webviper (I think) who had a bad ass AR pistol except with slightly better parts in a few spots. That's where my inspiration came from. What reeled me in is the look of the pig slightly poking out from behind the quad rail

EDIT: And thanks to everyone else!

I just finished building it the other day. With the way our winter has been going I probably won't have a chance to hit my preferred outdoor range until late March sometime during spring break. I'll post a range report then.

LOL you are 1000% correct. I'm already researching my next project and I want to go with a 16" carbine (only because I have the handguards already or I'd go with a middy) lightweight budget build. So far my cost on the next one (BCG, Upper, Lower, LPK, Buffer Kit, Gas Tube)) will be $430 plus barrel cost (which I haven't researched yet). All the other parts I have already. If I can get away with building a plain-jane feather-like AR for under $600-650, that would make me a very happy camper!

Edit: I think the pistol pictured above set me back about $1200 or just under. Then there is the $30 barrel nut I messed up which pushes the cost on the pistol above $1200.

Well good luck, spare parts are the killer, i did 3 in the last year or so just because i had enough spare parts left over to start another build
