My 7.5 model 1 upper is finally shipping (ordered 12/12). I have a question about the free float tube. I got the low pro gas option and am wondering what rail will fit on there if I take the aluminum tube off.
Will (for example) a MI/YHM free float fit over the barrel nut or is this some kind of special set up that needs to be changed for a standard nut. Thanks. Can't wait for delivery on Tuesday. |

I have used both the M1S float tubes and the YHM lightweight railed float tubes on some of my uppers. Niether the M1S float tube, nor the YHM float tube use a standard barrel nut. They each have their own special barrel nut and they are not interchangeable with each other.
I haven't used the M1S gas blocks, but I've used a couple of other low-profile gas blocks and haven't had any clearance issues with using either the M1S or the YHM float tubes in a length that extends over the gas block. |
| Thanks guys. I got the upper and looks like I'll have to take the barrel and nut off. I'm thinking of putting a MI T7 free float on there. It's already got a low pro gas block. Just a standard barrel nut and install the rail? Can't think of anything else. Seems to be pretty straight forward. |
