Simple Question I am doing three lower builds for my sons, I started with Stag lowers and Stag lower parts kit. When I ran a operations check on the hammer and trigger. The issue that came up is "should the disconnector have a very short movement" it rocks back very little? Following the instructions for the lower build found in this forum (excellent guide and clear instructions) it said the following: Without releasing the trigger, push the hammer back again and verify that it locks (caught by disconnector). This is the hard part to explain - if I hols down the trigger hard then the disconnector does not rock back far enough to catch it but if I hold the trigger down easily and push the hammer back hard then the trigger assembly rocks back enough to allow it to catch the hammer - so yes it does kind of work - the disconnector seems to be to tight against the spring to start with (the spring is stacked up to much to allow the disconnector to rock far enough back to work)Yes the larger end of the spring is down into the trigger frame with the small end up and against the disconnector. So is this in my head and this is how it should work (wife says I get to pick and worry about things to much) or do I need to adjust something (like shortening the spring by a link or two) or am I doing something wrong in the build. By the way this is same on all three lowers I am working on. New To AR Builds but gunsmithing for over thirty years. Thanks for the help !! |

Yes Sir, I made sure the disconnector spring was in the correct position. I miss spoke I was not performing a function check I was just following the assemble instructions and then verifying that the fire mechanism was operating correctly. I think everything is OK but did not expect the disconnector to be such a short (Tight) moving part. Unfortunately I do not have an upper assembly to test fire the lowers, working on a short/slow budget. Thanks Raptor 56 |

Now we are up to something, disassemble again (Yes the disco spring was in the right way big end down into trigger) But when I tried reassembling the disco and trigger without the spring - the disco moved freely but moved only 1/32 of an inch
that is all it will move in the trigger housing and - yes I checked for debris none present dry and clean) If you all say that is all the farther the disconnect needs to travel is 1/32 of and inch we are GTG but if you'lls discos are moving more What do you recommend??? Thanks Dano 523 |

Pull the FCG out of the rifle,
Now with just the trigger, disco (no spring), and pin, dry fit these parts. The back tail of the disco should go all the way down into the trigger slot until it bottoms out on the bottom of the trigger slot. If it will not do this, then double the to find the burs that is not allowing such and remove it/them. Regarding movement, you should have between about a 1/4"movement all the way down to all the way back up. If no burs are found, then the FCG could be out of spec. |

That is affirmative I Pulled the FCG out of the rifle, With just the trigger, disco (no spring), and pin, dry fit these parts. Done The back tail of the disco should go all the way down into the trigger slot until it bottoms out on the bottom of the trigger slot. Which it does but moves only 1/32 of an inch NO burs all parts clean and dry Regarding movement, you should have between about a 1/4"movement all the way down to all the way back up. Nope do not have it If no burs are found, then the FCG could be out of spec. What is your recommendation reshape into spec or send back to Stag Arms???? Has anyone else had this problem????? Thanks for all your help! |
