Ok, so after watching videos and reading several posts here I decided to tackle taking apart my Del-Ton mil spec bolt carrier assembly. All went perfect until it was time to reseat the cotter pin that holds the firing pin. It would only go in about 2/3 of the way. I rewatched the cleaning video and I wasn't doing anything wrong. It just plain would not go in all the way. Nothing a BFH can't fix. I used my small brass mallet to persuade it to seat all the way. What could I be doing the wrong? I had the bolt slid all the way forward. Its in and functioning, but I believe I better buy a few extras as I doubt this one will ever go back in again. Thoughts?

| Now see if you can get that cotter key back out again. I've never had to force the pin in as long as the firing pin is in the right position inside the bolt/carrier. Now that I think about it I do need to replace the key in my XM177 clone, it was a little chewed up last time I cleaned it and the new keys I bought came it, just gotta find'em in that big drawer full of parts. |

Thanks for the replies guys. I just ordered some new pins and will change it when they arrive. I actually did all that ya'll suggested. I'm only a newb to AR's and thought maybe there was some trick to this as the guy in the one video just put his back in like nothing. The pin is in place and holding the firing pin correctly and the firing pin is not impeded. I even ran a pipe cleaner through in case something was stuck that my old eyes couldn't see. Nothing there. I'll try with a new one later this week. If it happens with a new pin I'll contact Del-Ton. Thanks again. |
