I've been thinking of getting an AR lately...  (Not that there's anything wrong with my Garands and M1903 Springfield.)

I'm thinking of getting a Colt LE6920, probably the OEM2 (no furniture), then adding my own furniture.

Am I off track?  Can I get anything better (better parts/higher quality) for the same or less money?  I'm not really interested in entirely building one from scratch.

Thanks!

OEM2 is a good, solid choice that you won't regret. Go for it.

You'll find the AR compliments the Garand and M1903 nicely. I have both and wouldn't get rid of either.

Thanks.  140 views and only 1 reply, I must be on the right track. ;)

I do have an M1 Carbine too; smaller and probably lighter than an AR, but um, hmmm, would probably fit the bill just as well.  Other than being much older.

Of course, one reason for an AR is ammo availability (another is parts availability); while .30 Carbine is available, I doubt it's as available as .223/5.56.

I'm surprised the pony fanboys have not piled on in here...

If you like the Colt, get it, its a good rifle.

Good rifle and good choice for a first. I love me some M1 carbines but, you're right, the .30 is not as easily found or cheap as 5.56/.223. Go with the Colt and you'll have a nicely rounded out little arsenal there.

Can't go wrong.

There's a lot of options but the LE6920 OEM2 is a good first, worry free choice.  I wish Colt offered it when I was looking for my first AR.

Every time I logon I am again impressed with how many folks are online on this Forum, often 5 - 6 thousand.  I'm sure they range in experience and temperament all across the spectrum.

149 views doesn't surprise me.  You'll get lots of advice here.  I've yet to learn of anyone who's a snob here.

best,

The Colt is a solid choice for a first AR.

Build.

Go with a Premium PSA complete upper and a blem lower and slap those suckers together.

Then build one from scratch so you can pick out exactly what you want.

Then another.

And another
