You all seem knowledgable on the AR15. If you could only by one, which manufacturer would it be and why?

It all depends on how much you want to spend. I would buy from Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt, or Rock River Arms for starters. Colt and Armalite are probably the most expensive then Bushy and RRA. If I were you I would buy from RRA. In my opinion they have the best product for the money. Look in the picture thread for some great examples of all different kinds of rifles.

Welcome to the club, friend. eaglebite pretty much summed up what I was going to say. But if I had to pick one I would get a Bushmaster. Doesn't matter though cause once you get your first AR you will buy more. So it doesn't really matter which brand the first one is.  [:D]

This is a no brainer for you.  Get a Bushmaster.  If it goes bad, all ya gotta do is walk up the street to Maine and kick some Bushy butt.  Course I guess the same could be said about Colt.  But personally, I don't like Connecticut.

I would go Bushmaster if I were you.

Just do it, you'll thank me later [:)]

RRA.  Great fit and finish is par for the course for the these fellas.  Take a look at ADCO ( http://www.adcofirearms.com/)for all things RRA.  Good prices and customer service.

I have three Armalite rifles, and I have had no problems with any of them. Fit and finish are excellent.

Ohh a tough choice.

Either a Colt 6400.  Colt quality, nice civilain copy of the M4 (with many of the small details like the extended feed ramps and side sling adapter).  Its a flattop and fairly light weight with the M4 profile barrel.

Or a Bushmaster flattop with their lightweight barrel and entry stock.  Again nice quality, chrome lined barrel (like the Colt), a bit lighter - but I'd add a 1" spacer to make it 'fit' right.

I'm into the 'lightweight' and 'compact' carbines more so than the longer rifles.
