SKIP THE BARSKA!!!

And for mags, try going prone with a 30 rounder... It's going to hit. Buy some 20 rd. mags

yea thts what i read on midway.... i have two 20rnd p mags and one 30 rnd p mag...... what scope would u suggest. i like a scope with bdc. i also dont want too powerful of scope because at longer distance your target may "dissapear" or "move' by the heat of summer....which is why snipers use 10x scopes... ive also thought about a fixed power because some people forget to power up if using the bdc. im looking to spend between 150-250 on scope.

Do yourself a favor and lose the 'sniper' mentality.

Your best bet is to look on the optics and/or precision rifle forum, but skip the barska.

You absolutely right real snipers only use 10X scopes.... I Mean the M40A3 used by the Marine Corps only has a Schmidt & Bender 3–12× 50 SDSS and is only like $3500 give or take...

My $0.02 since you asked, is that every first AR should be a KISS carbine.  Get a flat top with cary handle until you can aford a real optic and spend money on ammo.

At $600 per month you'll be shooting soon.

I'm gonna have to go with this.

Don't try to make it what it's not.

i like sabre uppers.  plan on spending $1500 on a good one with extreme accuracy in mind.  my last build was a SDMR build that i had over $2200 before optics, but it shot 3/4 MOA with handloads @ 500yds.  you need to seriously think of how much money it costs to buy ammo for a precision AR.  you can't just shove cheap ass xm855 or winchester white box down the pipe and expect real accuracy like you can with hand loads or at least good ammo like hornady tap or black hills.  that is going to be your biggest expense @ $20+ a box.  think about that before you think you want a "sniper" AR.

the cheapest decent scope you can get with bdc and good clear glass is a nikon 3x9x40 pro staff for around $160, and do yourself a favor and get a screw in sunshade. . . it does help when in open sun.  thats what i had on my last build, and it did everything i wanted it to for the money.  now, can you find better optics?  of course, but for an amateur like you or me, it will work out to 500yds just fine.  remember, we're not staking our lives on that bullet like the boys in the sandbox are.  if you do decide to build yours this way and get into the realm of precision shooting, you WILL want a better scope, and you can figure that you'll spend about the same on optics as on your rifle. . . thats a saying we have.

the one thing about a precision build is that you CANNOT cheap out. . . at all.  think about it.

3 things,

I went with a YHM handguard my first build to save on money, and its not worth it. Just get a Troy FF or Daniel Defense FF. The YHM handguard is bulky, and the rails "bite" your hand. Truly uncomfortable. Also, the finish on the YHM handguards are subpar compared to the Troy/DD handguards. If you're going for a long range rifle, why not just save some money and get a FF cylindrical handguard (with sling swivel for bipod)? Do you really need rail space, or are you going for tacticool?

For a long range rifle, I would go with heavier bullets to negate windage a little. A barrel with 1x8 or 1x7 is preferred so it can stabilize heavier 62+ grain bullets.

Also not a fan of the JP recoil eliminator... too bulky imo.
