I would like to first introduce myself...
My name is Dave and I have been a long time lurker on the site and have learned a ton. I am still learning and need some of your expert advice. I am looking to do my first build and I think I have found everything that I need but I may be overlooking something that I would need and any feedback you could give me about my current list would be outstanding. Upper/Lower Combo-Rainier Arms $250 AIM niBO BCG $100 Daniel Defense LPK $95 Rainier Arms Buffer tube kit $60 Faxon 16" barrel with gas block and tube $220 Raptor Charging handle $85 Larue Tactical RISR w/ MagPul buttstock $90 Larue Tactical pistol grip $14 AT3 Free float 14.5" guard $135 Magpul front and rear sights $75 Total Price: $1124 Am I missing anything? How does the build look to this point?? Thanks in advance everyone!!! |

Upper/Lower Combo-Rainier Arms $250 AIM niBO BCG $100 You don't need NiB - the standard BCG works fine Daniel Defense LPK $95 You're paying extra for the DD name here. Just get a regular LPK and roll the cash into a good BCG. Rainier Arms Buffer tube kit $60 Faxon 16" barrel with gas block and tube $220 Raptor Charging handle $85 That's a lot of charging handle. You may find the USGI works fine. Try that first for $15-20 before going for something 4x. Larue Tactical RISR w/ MagPul buttstock $90 Your preference, seems gimmicky to me. Do you not like any of the more common stocks, like the waffle, SOPMOD or CTR? Larue Tactical pistol grip $14 AT3 Free float 14.5" guard $135 Your call Magpul front and rear sights $75 Good choice for BUIS Total Price: $1124 Am I missing anything? How does the build look to this point?? Thanks in advance everyone!!! Is this your first AR? If so, I'd lose some of the expensive and gimmicky stuff. Notes above in bold. It's easy to spend a lot of time reading this and other sites and make a list of unrelated stuff that you read good reviews about but that doesn't make sense together or necessarily suit you well. I'd highly recommend you build a more standard rifle before going for some of the specialized stuff. It's like building a sports car out of Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bentley, and Aston Martin parts; they're nice but they may not play well together or make a better package together. |

Thanks for the response minion42....what LPK would you recommend? |

Thanks for the response minion42....what LPK would you recommend? I agree with everything he said in the bold. I've used PSA LPKs and had good results. That's where I would look if I wanted a standard, no-frills LPK for a good price. Also, welcome to the site! If you press the "Quote" button under someone's comment, then you can reply directly back to them. You can also edit stuff out to make their quote shorter if you don't need the whole thing. Have you thought about an optic? Primary Arms makes good stuff if you're on a tight budget. Otherwise, an Aimpoint PRO would be a very solid choice. If this is for HD, then you should also be looking at lights. The Surefire G2Xs are excellent for the money. |

Thanks again for the responses.... Did you see anything that I was leaving off in terms of parts? I just want to make sure I have everything that I ultimately end up deciding on budgeted. Assuming the upper is not a stripped upper (the pics seem to show it as complete so you should be good) and the rail includes its own barrel nut you should be gtg. |

I mentioned this in another thread, but it's worth noting again. You should take a look at Palmetto state's lower parts kit. There defender moe kit comes with the enhanced trigger and can be had for 70 bucks, or for 75 you can get one with the ALG ACT trigger. Both of these triggers are much better than a standard trigger that comes in the DD lpk, and is 20-25 bucks cheaper. |

Red Barn Armory lets you build your own LPK with mix and match brand name parts.
No wasted money on parts that get put into a box on the shelf. http://www.redbarnarmory.com/Build-Your-Own-Custom-AR15-Lower-Parts-Kit-LPK-p/rbacustomar15lpk.htm |

You can definitely trim off the extra costs or put the money you're willing to spend into a drop-in trigger group.
Kill the charging handle. You can use ANY charging handle that's cheap as dirt and then add a cheap extension if you want A lower part kit is a lower part kit. They're pins and springs. The only thing I've run into sometimes deals with the bolt catch needing the inner bottom tip ground down to fit certain lowers so allow more movement to lock the bolt carrier back. That's a 5 minute fix with sand paper or diamond sharpener. If you're just getting small parts (like the charging handle) then you can use JSE surplus. I've not had any problems with them and they're cheap with USPS priority options instead of being charged like $15 for UPS. Plus they have a Black Rain drop-in trigger (retails for $180) with the logo ground off (because it was a lot contracted out another maker) and it's only like $95. I bought half a dozen of them and they're good. You'll need a flash hider/muzzle brake too. You can figure out now if you're wanting to add a suppressor on later so you can get a flash hider with a quick release mount for a suppressor. There is a bill in congress right now to release restrictions on suppressors. So, if it passes then they will no longer cost you $1,000 for a soup can along with a $200 gov extortion tax. Hopefully it passes because it would come in handy |

A good way to check and see if you have all the parts is by watching a "how to" YouTube video on how to build a rifle. They should go over every part begin used. You can also find AR15 parts lists/guides on the AR15.com front page. |
