I am building my first AR. I have a Spike's lower with PSA/Magpul lower parts kit that is now complete. Picked up a AXTS Raptor CH on a trade on Craigslist. Just need an upper and BCG.
Trying to decide on an upper, I am leaning towards a Midwest Industries mid with FN Barrell and their MLok handguard. I really like their hand guard and that this completed upper comes with an FN barrell, and at $660 puts it right in my price range. Any thoughts or suggestions? Midwest Industries Upper

| If your not stuck on m-lock, I might suggest a PSA premium chf upper then go to smithbuilt manufacturing for the handguard. Their lightweight keymod is the exact same as the Midwest Industries keymod with the full top rail but only about 80.00. I mainly run MI handguards till i found this one. They are exactly the same and same quality. I have built 2 rifles with the smithbuilt handguards and even used my MI barrel nut wrench. Could probably slide in 150 or more less than the MI upper. |

The enhanced light weight profile barrel from BCM is the tits. It's fantastic, I have it in 14.5" and it's my favorite rifle. The BFH barrel is a plus too. If you don't want the BFH barrel there's another option. (it's not really a necessity, you could knock almost a $100 bucks off and just get the standard. My 14.5" is just the standard, no problems at all. I appreciate the feedback everyone offered and will be looking into some options. I am biased towards the MLOK platform because from what I have seen it has been adopted but more manufacturers then keymod, although at this point I don't have for plans for addons other then possibly a light, so that may be a moot point.

I like the 15" rails myself. I email MI about subbing their 15" rail and they said that wouldn't be a problem.
After some consideration of the recommendations from above, think I'm going to go with a BCM upper. Just gotta wait for it to become available as its currently out of stock. :( |

Advocating for lower tier brands that rip off design and intellectual property from other manufacturers is in extremely poor taste. |
