I just bought my first AR, a DPMS A-15 flat top. Looking through the owners manual it lists several ammo manufacturers that will void the warranty if used. Also using reload ammo will void the warranty. Do other gun makers have this policy as well? Just curious.

Here are the no no`s:

Israeli ammo
Korean ammo
Chilean ammo
Pmp
South african surplus
Wolf
Norinco
Silver Bear
Any other steel cased, lacquer coated ammo

dude, welcome to arfcom! Most of that ammo, wolf. israeli and silver bear are fine for plinking but may void your warranty. might want to post in the ammo section next time though. be safe.

I think some of the other makers have some restrictions. CMMG has this to say:

Warranty is voided if the following types of ammunition is [sic] used: Any reloaded ammuntion, any steel cased ammo, Wolf ammo.

My bad. One more dumb question, if I want to mount a vertical grip do I have to change the forearm? Its round and I`m not sure how they mount. Thanks.

Either get a railed forend or a length of picatinny rail and mount it on your current handguards.

For the record,my DPMS ate steel cased stuff all day long and i highly dout anyone would be able to look at your rifle and know what type of ammo your using.

When you take into account the cost of ammo these days I'd skip right over these picky upper manufacturers.

Does the DPMS have a chrome lined barrel?

I would never purchase a firearm which the manufacturer didn't even have enough confidence in it to warrent it for all types of ammo.  Would you buy a car if the manual said, "don't use BP gas"?

Just for the record, most all gun manufacturers will void your warrantee for specific types of ammunition used, reloaded ammunition being the biggest one, and foriegn manufacturers being in there on several as well. Just because that voids your warrantee does not mean that they dont have faith in their product, it just means that they are not going to warrantee their product on something that may have unforseen quality control issues.

What if the manufacturer said, "Warantee Void if you use any drive train, engine, lubrication or combustable fluids that do not meet manufacturers specifications"?....or said, ""don't use Mongolian gas"?...because it doesn't meet manyfacturers specs....maybe it has low octane, or high concentrations of lead or byproducts the manufacturer can't control that are detrimental to the engine.

For whatever reason, if a manufacturer, and in this case several manufacturers say pretty much the same thing...then maybe there is something to it....

Ya think?

I shoot reloads out of everything. And since that almost always voids the warranty I might as well shoot the wolf stuff too.
