Hey Everyone,

Long time hunter and shooter now venturing into the world of AR's after a few years of poking around..

I am mainly looking for a rifle to shoot at paper and maybe some coyotes and hogs etc.  Nothing serious and nothing (hopefully) that will be shooting back..

I would like to build an gun that will work well with a scope and that will should decent groups at the range.  I don't necessarily expect it to group like my A-bolts or tikka but would like for it to be a respectable group - hopefully no more than 1.5 or 2" at 100 yards.  Certainly want something that will produce better groups than my AK.

I already have the lower purchased - Just a PSA magpul complete lower.

My question(s) are what kinda upper would yall recommend (budget conscious wise) that will be a good shooter?  I have almost pulled the trigger a couple times on a stainless 1/7 upper from PSA in varying configurations from a free float middy to the freedom edition 16" middy.

1 - Am i off in my thinking that a stainless barrel with produce smaller groups?

2 - Do I really need a free float rail for good groups off sand bags?

3 - Would I be just as well off with a basic non-stainless barrel set up like this?  Option 1  or optional 2

Not necessarily married to PSA for this build but I have yet to find somewhere with what appears to be quality equipment for comparatively low pricing.  Other recommendations welcomed...

Thanks!  Sorry if this is a little long winded...

neahunter,

Based on what you describe option 2 is your best bet. For the best paper groupings a free float barrel is best along with a nice scope. PSA has some nice uppers and for an excellent price!!!

Thanks

I just ordered this upper Seemed to good to pass up...

It just seemed like a really good deal.  I know it isnt free floated but I can add a tube down the line and still be fine.

Does this upper seem like a decent on to accomplish what I want?  If not I can prolly swap the order as long as it is before it ships.

Thanks!
