This is my first post, and I wasn't for sure where to put it so I just figured here. I'm about to sell all my guitars and buy my first AR. My dad got passed me this gun craze, and I have only recently decided that it's a lot more fun to shoot things than it is for me to play music (which I was never very good at). I was looking at building a Spikes at first, but today I was looking around and came to Daniel Defense. Did some research to find they make a great AR. Also watched their torture test they did on one and I was completely surprised that any gun could go through all that and still shoot. I'm not new to the gun world, or the AR world, but I will admit that I don't know very much about them now.

Main point: I'm probably going to buy a Daniel Defense M4 now after watching their torture test, and seeing what comes extra with buying one like the rail, sights, grip, etc. I was wondering who else has one and why they like them? I'd also would like to know how the customer service is at DD. A company can say they have a lifetime warranty, but if you can never get ahold of them and it takes a year to get your rifle back then thats not a lot of fun.

Daniel Defense makes a great AR. I'd also consider a Colt 6920 for a first AR as well. Great prices on them now.

you will get a lot on here for colt and larue... I swing more towards larue if it was between the 2 just because it in texas..

But all the good guns do the same thing....

I would find one that has the things you like and as about it then pick from that...

As far as Daniel Defense I have never had an issue with them.. I have 2 omega rails and needed some replacement screws that I striped the heads on in a rush to tighten with the wrong size flat head screw driver
I called explained my situation and in the same week had new ones in the mailbox at no charge

Spikes makes a solid product

I own a rock river that is the only complete rifle as far as AR's go that i bought complete....

Lowers I am a Mega machine guy... while some are not marked Mega they are still made by them...

Daniel Defense rails are on the pricy side but are good rails......
if i was to do it all over that would one of if not my top choice for a complete wepaon
but building it is so much more fun

I'm in total agreement on your customer service and warranty issues. A lifetime warranty is worthless if the company is not going to be around a lifetime. You hear all the time about companies selling out, going out of business, changing names and now the warranty is worthless. I purchased an AK several years back and it warrantied by the distributor, importer. It broke 6 weeks after I got it, My LGS shipped it back to them and 10 weeks later I was still waiting for the gun to be returned. My LGS finally told the distributor that it was a fix or replace warranty and since it hadn't been fixed in 10 weeks, they were going to replace it at the distributors expense. At least my LGS was willing to stand up for their customer. DD has been around a while with a solid reputation and I doubt you would ever have a problem with warranty or customer service. But it's good to ask.

One day I'll go buy some more guitars. Just right now I don't have a lot of time to play because I'm in college. I am keeping my harmonica though.

And I know that a lot of people enjoy Colt. I mean they make guns for the military, so you can't go wrong with them. Building a Spikes was my first choice, and it's not off my list yet, but I was just stunned by what the DD went through and still worked fine. My dad is building a Spikes, and I like them because if you go to their website it's easy to see everything and pick what you want. Colts are cool, but I think I'd rather get a DD or Spikes instead. Just my opinion.

And thanks for welcoming me.

I agree with the above posters.  Playing guitar and shooting are my favorite 2 hobbies.  I only play guitar because I can't shoot in my house.  Stick with it.  Just like shooting you will get better with time.
