No trying to be a wise-ass, but why didn't you test the mags before you bought the rifle, came home, posted pics and then grumped about it? A very nice rifle from a great company...get some proper USGI mags and see if they drop ok. There is no excuse for owning mags that don't fit or having a lower that is too tight. |
Straight from CMMG at a gun show. Yeah its pretty light, which I like a lot. I'm going to buy some Magpul PMAGS online in a few days or so, and hopefully they will work and its not the lower, rather the mags that came with the gun. |
They dropped out fine when I was there. Got home, field stripped it, rubbed some junk off, reassembled and they aren't dropped smooth. |

Triple post, sorry. Now I really don't know whats wrong. I separated the upper and lower receivers and loaded a magazine into just the lower and it dropped just fine, time after time. Then I put them back together, loaded a mag, press the mag release button, nothing.... ![]() Something wrong with my upper? I doubt it. Maybe it needs some lube. Where would you suggest I lube it? |
Mag is not loaded and I can't check that yet because I have no ammo right now. Doesn't matter if the bolt is back or locked and ready, mag still does not drop. Only drops when the upper and lowers are disconnected and the mag is only in the lower. Bad mags? Need lube? Fucked up upper? You tell me.
Yes I checked that, the mag release is fine. I decided to see what would happen if I put a small drop of lube on each of the four corners of one of the mags....it dropped right out a couple times, then went back to being stuck. The mags are D & H Industries Inc., and I just looked up that those are USGI high quality magazines....what the fuck is wrong with my rifle? |
I did a little test. Inserted the magazine in 10 times. Pressed the magazine release button after each time a magazine was loaded. The magazine was only dropped 2 out of those 10 times. Now tell me, is that typical for a brand new rifle? The finish on one of the corners of the magwell is coming off from the scraping, is that normal? Should not a factory built rifle's magazine release function 10/10 times? I'm getting very frustrated and don't know what else to do. |
Mags can be different, I have 2 20's that fit fine in my 2 self builds, but in my colt they are tight fit to get in, funny they are colt mags. Buy a hankercheif to wipe drool from off your face from the BRD time to time. For the ladies. Oh yeah, Nice boomstick!!!!
| Yeah, could be your magwell.Just dont start bending or beating up your mags.Buy some more and try them,ya need some ammo to load them up with and try also.Ive got 6 D&H mags and they drop easily loaded and unloaded. Some lowers are a little tighter than others, dont let it get to ya!Good lookin rifle anyway!! |
I'm thinking about getting some PMAGS, I wonder what affect they would have. The thing is that I don't think its the magwell because when I have the upper and lower separated, it always drops. So it might be something with the upper. But that I don't know what. Oh well, I love it and I cannot wait to put some rounds down range! |
your mag release button isnt screwed in far enough push the mag release as far in as possible with the tip of your finger and look on the other side of the lower and see if you can twist the metal bar that pops out clockwise to tighten it up more this should fix your problem |
Thank you!! I didn't build it though, thats how I bought it. Although I intend to build onto it. Mags, mags, mags Ammo, ammo, ammo LaRue 9.0" Rail CTR or hopefully UBR stock MIAD grip Tango Down Battle Grip Tango Down Rail Covers And possibly take off the front sight and get a flip up w/ gas block. But all of that above comes after practice. |
