Accomplished two milestones this summer. Celebrated my 80th birthday and built my first AR! I had no experience with the AR platform before. I had shot two of my buddies AR's a few times, that's all. I built it as a varminter to mostly shoot from a rest. So far the new rifle has performed pretty well. First 5-shot group at 100 yds. was sub-moa with Hornady factory 55 gr VMax ammo. I shot some 26 year old reloads yesterday that I had loaded for a bolt gun. Eight shots in one large ragged hole with two fliers that opened the group up to about 1.5". Have some tailored reloads ready to test. I'm not happy with the scope mount and ordered another today. Vic

As you can see, nothing really special about the build.

CMT billet upper and lower receivers.
Wilson Combat Ultra Match 18" Wylde fluted barrel.
Magpul PRS stock.
Hyperfire "Tar Heel" trigger W/ 2# springs.
AIM bin BCG
Nikon M-223 scope

I am a retired mechanical engineer, so am some what computer literate. Not nearly as versed as you young folks today, but I get by the best I can.

I disagree.  That's an awesome barrel, and you seem to have set it up for success.

Yes I know!       I tried the Nikon "P" mount and the Leupold M2 Integral mount and neither was high enough. (Both are about 1-1/2" high) Due to my cheek bone structure I need a mount that centers the scope about 1-5/8" above the rail and extends forward about 2". Most of the integral mounts that I was able to research were not high enough. The Brownell riser in the photo is high enough, but doesn't allow me to mount the brass catcher and I hate to shag brass! I have ordered the GG&G Scout riser and rings. Vic

That's a Yankee Hill Machine riser, it's pretty much the only item they make that I trust.  It's hard to fuck up making a riser.

The rings are Warne Maxima mids, I have a set of EGW rings sitting on my bench waiting to take their place.

Nice looking rifle.

And thank goodness, finally someone older than me.
