Hey guys I own a couple tinkering AR-15s but have been looking into taking on a build. The end goal is to have a high quality rifle that could be used as a 3-gun rifle if I decide to go that route. I have come up with a parts list after researching the forum quite a bit. I would love to stay under $1,500 with the build (already have sufficient optics so not included in budget). If any of you know of a higher quality part for the same price that I could substitute for one listed, I would greatly appreciate the input.

Parts list: (Rough price estimates)

PSA Blemished Lower         $60
Wilson Combat 2 Stage Trigger    $270
BCM Milspec Buffer Tube     $40
Vltor Modular Upper        $170
Bravo Company BCG       $170
Daniel Defense 16" 1/7 M4 Barrel      $250
Low Profile Gas Block w/ Stainless Tube      $50
Bravo Company Medium Gunfighter Charging Handle      $45
Samson Evolution 15" Rail       $200
Magpul BUIS (OD Green)      $100
Magpul ACS (OD Green)    $100
Magpul MOE Pistol Grip (Black)    $20
OD Green Lower Cerakote Job      $60

Build Total: $1,465

Thanks for the help

IM Sent regard Magpul Stock

Also, here are some parts worth swapping your choices for. Being your looking at a 16" M4 barrel (I'm guessing carbine gas system), an additional $13.66 gets you an enhanced action/buffer spring w/ H2 buffer. And, for an additional $20 you can upgrade to a short-throw-safety blemished stripped lower. As for the low-pro gas block and gas tube, you'll end up saving some cash; but on the plus side will have a black nitride (Melonite is the same thing) finish. As for Aero Precision and Damage Industries, they are both top companies which both machine their own parts; also Damage Industries manufactures all springs in-house. This is why I chose the parts listed below.

Odin Works Low Profile Gas Block (.750) black nitride finish $21.99
Seekins Precision Melonited Gas Tube - Carbine Length $16.15

Total: $53.66 (using coupon code SUMMER30)
Damage Industries Nut, Castle Receiver Extension Tube
Damage Industries End Plate, M4 Receiver, USGI
Damage Industries Receiver Extension Buffer Tube (Carbine, 6 POS Mil-Spec)
Damage Industries Enhanced Spring, Recoil Buffer, Action, Carbine
Damage Industries Buffer, Recoil H2

Damage Industries Bolt Carrier Group, Complete Select-Fire M16/M4/AR15 $87.15 (using coupon code SUMMER30)

Aero Precision AR15 Stripped Lower Receiver, STS (BLEMISHED) $80.00 (add Magpul MOE grip for $15 extra)

Standard M4 barrel is not the first thing that comes to mind when thinking 3 gun rifle. A Ranier Ultra Match 18" Intermediate is. Spend on trigger and barrel, and BCG last, then go cheap on the rest. JMO, worth what you paid for it.

CMC makes a nice trigger and you can save almost $100 right there...

I've heard the VLTOR mod upper sometimes doesn't play nice with certain handguards so might want to verify that.

That and also with certain charging handles. I believe the Gunfighter was one of the ones that were an issue with some...

On the Vltor upper, it's very nice, but very expensive for an upper.  I have 2, but they're for more precision oriented guns (the Gunfighter CH is tight, but breaking in nicely).   BCM blemished uppers can be had for $75 at BCM's site.  Less than half of the Vltor's price.

For general purpose use, the DD barrel is a pretty good choice.  For 3 gun, that Rainier might be better.

Have you used the Samson Evo before?  I had one on a gun for a while and didn't like it very much.  For the same money, there are a lot of options (currently on my GP gun, I'm running a 15" Apex Machining rail, but there are a lot of options at that price point, such as Seekins' keymod rail, and the BCM KMR handguard, which is much lighter, is a bit more expensive but would be offset by the savings on the upper receiver cost).

Having never shot with the Wilson trigger, I won't say anything bad about it.  However, at that price point, you can definitely get a Geissele, which found its way into a lot of really switched on people's guns.  I'm not advocating a "follow the heard" mentality, just one that observes what people who are way more serious into shooting in particular areas (tactical, 3-gun, long range precision, etc) and watch for clues.

Not knocking cerakote, but if you're on a budget, is it something you really need?  You can match the color with high quality spray paint (not Krylon that easily comes off) like Aervoe.

Personally, I would go with the SSA/SSA-E, regular mil-spec forged upper,CMT/Stag M16 BCG with HP/MPI bolt, B5 SOPMOD OD, MOE grip in OD. I also prefer the Rainier version of the Samson rail but that wouldn't be my rail choice to begin with. Also go with Magpul OD on the Cerakote.

I appreciate the replies. I will definitely look into the BCM upper, it does make a lot more sense than paying double for the Vltor although I do somewhat like different look of the modular. After posting yesterday, I began looking into the 18" Nordic SS 1:8" barrels. Am between this and the WOA, both in 18" but have also heard the Rainer is a great barrel that I haven't looked into yet. As far as rails, I've never had the Samson, I have Troy alpha rails on two of my guns and like the troy a lot. Have a buddy up north who has the Samson Evo and have shot with it twice and both times I enjoyed the feel of it. Will research the rails a little bit more before I decide which one to go with.

How does anyone feel about the RRA 2-stage trigger? Was looking around earlier and saw the 2-stage match + lower parts kit for $130.
With an 18" barrel is a 15" rail overkill or a good idea? Not sure how much weight that would add over the 13".

If I didn't shoot Noveske barrels, the Rainer/Shilen UltraMatch would be my second choice. My buddy has a Rainier Match barrel and it's been a really good barrel for the money. Personally, I would get a 16" middy. Not sure why 3-gunners use 18" but whatever.

The RRA trigger is ok but nothing like the SSA or SSA-E. The SSA-E is my favorite trigger but I'm not sure if it would be the best for 3-gun.

Personally, I have no use for a rail longer than 12-13" or shorter than 10". I prefer 10-11" but that's me.

There are some really nice rails on the market at varying prices. The BCM KMR would be a great choice.

When it comes down to it, your barrel and trigger are going to be the most important part in building an accurate rifle. Unless you plan on going hog wild in 3-gun I would just build a practical accurate rifle that will work for almost anything. A Recce type build comes to mind.

I have the Geissele SD3g trigger, for the same price from www.joeboboutfitters.com.  Also have never used the afore mentioned trigger, but a Geissele is hard to beat.
