Working on my first build. I've got a Seekins Precision upper and lower and I'm not sure what barrel to go with. Still learning about barrel brands. Going for an all around shooter. Any advice?

Can't go wrong with Faxon Gunner barrels for all around shooters. $50 more will get you a precision LaRue barrel until July 4th.

For an all around gun, some/anything BCM.

Black Hole Weaponry makes some very nice barrels in a wide selection of contours, lengths, and chamberings.

However, they're made to order and it may take a few weeks before they ship.

Depends on what you want... accuracy, reliability, general purpose?

For match accuracy you want expensive barrels coupled with well hand loaded ammo

For reliability, chrome lined bore, etc., won't be as accurate but will be easier to clean.

For general purpose all around shooter, stock/mil spec everything. It's cheap and it works. I think it's wasteful to spend 500 dollars on a barrel unless you know exactly what you want.

Just get a cheap 16" barrel and use the thing

After you use it for a while you'll be better able to make an informed decision

I beg to differ, barrels with excellent accuracy potential are available from brand-name makers for a bit over $200.  Check out Faxon, Green Mountain and AR Performance, for example. - CW

Probably something small like a 4x32.

Thanks I'll check it out. I'm in no major rush so I don't mind waiting if need be.

I know Faxon makes good barrels, one of my buddies uses them on all of his builds, I use Ballistic Advantage on my builds and we can shoot virtually the same with either of them, so either of them would be a good choice.

I agree. I'm like for a precision general purpose. I'd like to be able to use it for anything, but also be accurate. The upper and lower I've got are top notch, but at the same time I'm not building a match grade competition gun either.

Look at Wilson Combat, I love the barrel on my AR. Lightweight Tactical mid length.

There are so many quality barrels to choose from that it's hard to suggest one without knowing exactly what type of upper you want to build. Just do it right and buy a LaRue barrel while they're on sale. PredaTar for a lightweight build or Stealth for a bench shooter, sub moa barrels for less than $250. I would also suggest a Daniel Defense barrel, mine has been awesome.

Larue barrels are on sale for $225 till July 4th. Mine is extremely accurate, I have never heard a bad thing about their products. Take a look at the MOA all day challange, see what half of the barrels on the list are.  I plan to pick up 2 more before the sale is over for future builds.
