I finished my first build today. The forum here was a big help along with the book "The AR-15 Complete Assembly Guide" by Walt Kuleck and Clint McKee.
http://adrenalanstudios.com/Pictures/RifleSmall.JPG My specs are BCM Stardard 16" Mid Length Upper Receiver Group Smith and Wesson M&P 15 Lower Receiver LMT Bolt Carrier Group BCM Charging Handle DPMS Lower Parts Kit BCM M4 Milspec Stock Kit Troy Folder Rear Site Standard Handguards I plan on eventually getting quad rail FF handguards I had relatively few problems. I dinged my lower receiver here (sorry for a little blurriness): http://adrenalanstudios.com/Pictures/DingSmall.JPG A little touch-up may be in order. I have a couple questions: 1. The barrel nut does not fix completely over the handguards in the picture shown below. Is this ok? It is secure and will not move. In order to take it off I have to push on the barrel nut to take it off again. http://adrenalanstudios.com/Pictures/HandguardSmall.JPG 2. On my charging handle if I don't pull back far enough and let it go, so that is does not come back with enough force, it stops about 1/2 inch before it completely latches. As you can see in picture 2 it already scratched the lower receiver Is this normal? (2 pictures, top and side) http://adrenalanstudios.com/Pictures/ChargingTopSmall.JPG http://adrenalanstudios.com/Pictures/ChargingSideSmall.JPG 3. This may sound like a strange question, but the only other AR-15 I have ever owned was the DPMS AR-15 Sportical, which did not have an ejection port cover. When the BCG comes back it releases the ejection port cover and it flips open. Is this supposed to stay open until you finish firing the weapon then manually close it again? http://adrenalanstudios.com/Pictures/EjectionSmall.JPG Thanks for all your time and soon I will be starting on a second AR-15. |

I can't tell by the picture, but you should be all right. The upper was assembled by BCM, so quality shouldn't be a concern. If the handguards are tight, you are good to go. 2. On my charging handle if I don't pull back far enough and let it go, so that is does not come back with enough force, it stops about 1/2 inch before it completely latches. As you can see in picture 2 it already scratched the lower receiver Is this normal? (2 pictures, top and side) Not quite sure what you're talking about. I just grabbed one of mine and the CH will latch no matter how close it is to the receiver when I left it go forward. More details about the problem? And those scratches are completely normally. The hump the latch rides over will wear and the lower right about eh receiver extension will wear. Don't worry about wear, embrace it. 3. The cover will open whenever the BCG moves, and you must close it manually. |

with your charging handle, do not ride it down or short pull it. yank that sob all the way back and let it go. the bolt/carrier will need momentum to strip a round out of the mag, shove it in the chamber, and rotate the bolt home. also, the gun is new and need to be broke in a little. my guns lost a bit of that gritty feeling after 300 rounds or so and seem smother to charge. all of your parts are quality brands. my bet is if you go shoot it and brake it in, ride cowgirls not charging handles, you will not see this problem.
remember to clean the stick before shooting. edit- sp |

It is fine, as its only purpose to hold the handguard. http://adrenalanstudios.com/Pictures/HandguardSmall.JPG 2. Make sure you lube the hell out of the CH and BCG. http://adrenalanstudios.com/Pictures/ChargingTopSmall.JPG http://adrenalanstudios.com/Pictures/ChargingSideSmall.JPG 3. Just flip it up when storing. http://adrenalanstudios.com/Pictures/EjectionSmall.JPG Thanks for all your time and soon I will be starting on a second AR-15. |
