Hello everyone!

I put together my first rifle last weekend, and would like to thank everyone here for the plethora of information on assembly, quality, and other info.

That being said, I'd like to ask for some help ID'ing my rifle.  I bought the barreled upper (minus bolt & carrier) for 100 bucks from  a guy at the rifle range, and i'm not really sure what kind it is (but it shoots just fine :))

Here's a couple pictures, maybe you all can help me ID it!

Sorry for the fuzzy photos, the digi camera sucks... But the rifle, definitly does not!

The target was my last for the day, and I shot them in about 12 seconds.

The front iron sight is kind of hard to use... I've heard that A2 front sights are square, how tricky is that to change out?

Take care and stay safe.

Is there any markings on it in front of and above the ejection port? Maybe looks like a square with a c in the middle of it? What markings are on your barrel? Look the upper over for some markings and post what you find.

C MP C     on it, but the MP are "connected"  (the right part of M is the leg of the letter P)

I do believe it's a Colt, but other than that... i know nothing ;)

Thanks for the replies!

**EDIT**
I do know the barrel is a lower twist rate, i tried out some of the "penetrator" green tips, and at 25 yards 2/5 rounds went through the target sideways.  They must be too heavy, I am guessing a 1/14 twist rate??

'69 - '71 Colt barrel with chrome chamber.  See Retro Black Rifle component guide.

ETA: It's 1/12

Yes its a Colt barrel. C=Colt MP=Magnetic Particle tested C=chrome chamber  Going by the info on the sight here it would appear the barrel dates between 1969 and 1971.  How about the upper reciever itself? Can you find any markings anywhere on it? I'm with VAAR on this one, I think its a 604 upper.

The upper is pretty plain, as far as markings go.  There are 2 marks in front of/above the ejection port, but they aren't letters or anything.  Looks more like some sort of clamp mark.  I would take a picture but I doubt that it would be visible.

looks kinda like:

if that makes any sense ;)

Thanks for all your help!

My guess is that those are vestiges of the triangle and square Colt proof marks.  I've seen many uppers that look like that.
