Hi,
I am getting ready for my first build and I wanted to get a sanity check on my parts list/category. I do plan on researching each item category aimed at building an AR for my son. One that will be very light and comfortable for him to use. Thank you for taking a look and providing any feedback! Best procedure is to choose your parts and then post them up for comments. |

Here are some good reads to help with a build:
BARREL LENGTH STUDIES IN 5.56MM NATO WEAPONS http://sadefensejournal.com/wp/?p=1093 The Big M4 Myth: “Fouling caused by the direct impingement gas system makes the M4/M4A1 Carbine unreliable.” http://www.defensereview.com/the-big-m4-myth-fouling-caused-by-the-direct-impingement-gas-system-makes-the-m4-unreliable/ How the AR-15 Direct Impingement gas system works http://www.ar15barrels.com/prod/operation.shtml I went with the BCM Stock Kit w/ H2 Buffer being it has a 7075-T6 buffer tube (receiver extension) versus a 6061 tube. Also, for the list add an ejection port cover assembly, and also a forward assist assembly (if your upper receiver has forward assist). |
Cool. My son and I built an M16A4 clone. We had fun from start to finish on that build. We sat down an ordered each part online and built it together then sighted it in together. He had a blast. He doesn't know it yet but someday I'll give it to him as graduation present or wedding gift if Obama lets me.
