First I must say thanks for letting me join the forum. Seem to be alot of friendly and knowledgeable folks on here. Please forgive me if I ask questions that have been answered before. Ok first what kind of AR15 am I building, well looking mostly for a range, target gun. I would like to stay with an old school look on my rifle, a2 buttstock, 20" HBAR contor barrel with flash hider, ect, ect. Not really looking at putting a bull barrel on it. I have only got my striped lower so far. It's a S&W M&P15. First question as far as LPKs are most the same, like if I were to get a RRA LPK would it be noticeably better than say a Del-Ton? I'm talking standered fire control groups on both. Also the antiroll pin kits for triggers are they needed? I hade a Del-Ton midlinth car. before ran about 1000 rounds through it never saw any problems with pin walk. I'm not wanting to buy the cheapest everything and expect this rifle to be a tac driver but I also would rather not pay extra for parts that are not needed or any better than a cheaper brand. Well here is a pick of what I have so far. Will be ordering the LPK next day or so. Thanks so much for the help.

Welcome, I assembled my first lower a couple of months ago and used a RRA LPK with single stage trigger. It was around $65 as I recall and I was very satisfied with the quality. The trigger contact surfaces were all highly polished out of the package and when installed is smooth as silk with a good crisp break.
Here's the one I used: http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Rock_River_Lower_Parts_Kit_Single_Stage_Trigger_AR_p/rra-ar0120.htm Joe Bob's has several other brands of LPK's you can look at too. Awesome quick shipping with great prices. Shipping is always free over $90 and they offer a 5% discount to Veterans. I use them for almost all my AR stuff. Good luck with your build! |

Welcome. I had built several for myself and some for friends and relatives, but there are others here that had built more than me. My main advise to noobs is do not skimp on LPK, bolt carrier group, and get the best quality for the money of barrel for your intended use of your AR. I had built from RRA, Stag, Colt, and Daniel Defense LPK and would recommend Daniel Defense (less cost than Colt) and Colt LPK, they have less complaints with owners in over 6 years I had been in this forums. And as my own personal experience of 41 years with the AR platform Colt had not let me down in all those years, I had used them in CMP match, carbine classes, hunting and plinking, all I did was replace the usual worn parts like springs and bolts, I have not broken any parts at all. Make sure you mask your lower with thick layers of tape to protect them from scratches when you're assembling it. When installing your rear trigger guard roll pin support the thin receiver area around it with a stiff sythetic block of material like a front sight cradle block, don't use wood because it is too soft and could not support the receiver, a lot of guys here that use wood blocks breaks the ear of their lower. My main problem was the front pivot pin installation, I lost my first detent pin on my first build and I could only install it using a tool to install it. Just go slow, don't force anything and have fun with your project. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=26488/Product/PIVOT-PIN-DETENT-INSTALLATION-TOOL http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XDD21007&name=Daniel+Defense+Lower+Parts+Kit&groupid=53 |
