So just pulled the trigger on an 18" SPR barrel in .223 wylde, keeping progress on my mk12 clone. Also got a barrel nut and rifle gas tube with it. Next step is the handgauard.
When watching videos, it seems as if the FF rails attach to the barrel nut, which leads me to believe the one I got from BA won't work with the PRI handgaurd. Is this true? If so, should I wait until I have the appropriate barrel nut to install and torque the barrel nut? Or is it possible to install it, then change the nut out later on. Either way, just extra parts for my next build... ETA: Changed all the buts to nuts. Damn autocorrect.

BA?
Anyway, the FF handguard does attach to the barrel nut. Your handguard should either come with a proprietary barrel nut or it will work with a standard barel nut. I would not install the barrel nut until you are ready to install the handguard, unless you are planning on shooting it without a handguard. If so, I don't think it will hurt to put it on then take it off later. It would be no different than re-barreling an upper or FF the handguard on a standard handguard. |

Ballistic Advantage. Thanks for the advice. That's what I was thinking, but wanted to ask the experts. No plans on shooting it until it's complete. Rather be safe then sorry. Quoted:

I wouldn't say I'm an expert, but I have built several AR's and all were FF. Some that come to mind are, Troy uses a standard barrel nut, Seekins, ALG, YHM and MI use a proprietary barrel nut. |
