So I have a stripped RRA lower not being used and have decided to build it into a pistol AR. Its never been built into anything as of yet. So I have a few questions.
What are the advantages/disadvantages of different barrel lengths? Is it personal preference? Are the longer lengths more reliable? Rainier Arms has a 10.5 in stock but it seems a bit heavy at 24oz? With the RRA lower I will need to use a commercial size buffer correct? Places I should try to find these? I am confused reading about end plates such as a QD swivel for a sling. Can these not be used since some buffers do not have castle nuts? I have a stripped upper on the way. So I will need to track down a lower parts kit, bcg, rail, sights, etc. I notice the Noveske kx3? Is very popular. Is there a reason for that? Will other muzzle devices work? The buffer tube and spring has me confused the most. I'm going to guess these are out of stock along with other AR parts. Thanks. |

Thanks. Different barrel lengths are purely preference. Some guys will say no shorter than 10.5" some will say 7.5" is fine. Having said that I just built a 7.5". Shorter than 10.5" uses a pistol gas system, and this is what gives some people mixed feelings on the reliability. I figured I'd chance it since so many guys say they run fine. Then of course is the balance of the front end to the rear, with a pistol buffer tube I would assume the shorter the front end the better. No stock so its lighter at the rear. You'll need a pistol buffer tube also. The one RRA makes (and you can also get at PSA) doesnt use a castle nut and works perfectly with the magpul asap plate.(no mods needed). This is a good way to go. You don't need to worry about commercial or milspec. It doesnt matter when talking about pistol buffer tubes. This matters for stocks. Start off with a standard weight buffer.....and fix accordingly. OR many guys start off with an H2 buffer....and don't have any issues. The KX3 is supposedly really good for forcing the muzzle blast forward away from you, which is beneficial with a short barrel. I've thought about getting one, but for now I have an A2 flash hider. The difference is 8 bucks to 130 bucks....I'm sure the 130 bucks would be worth it though
Hope this helps man. |

What about this kit? If gets mixed reviews. Are there others with nicer sling attachments?

This one looks nicer. It will work with the RRA lower as I now understand it?
