After a couple pre-built AR's I decided to build my own. I ordered a handful of parts from here and there. So far all I actually have in hand is a CMMG stripped lower and Magpul 30rd Magazine:

Other things I have ordered:

MOE® Carbine Stock (FDE)
Magpul Grip (FDE)
Magpul Trigger Guard (FDE)
DPMS lower parts kit

Hopefully it all shows up soon. Then time to start looking around for an upper. I will probably go with a complete, any recommendations? Something in the $500-$600 range.

nice lower...

Nice composition.

There are several sites which give step by step assembly instructions. For the lower you'll need only common hand tools-punch, hammer, screwdriver or hex wrench for grip. You'll have to buy or borrow a $6 castle nut wrench for the stock. I suggest you buy a complete upper as you're just starting out. These are available in a wide array of configurations and many dealers will even build them to your specifications.

Thank you, just a quick shot on my phone. I am getting pretty antsy to get the rest of my parts. A shop I was at today had most everything I have already ordered and I almost just bought it all again.

Nice! My dad is actually a gun collector/builder so I can probably trick him into helping me. I have been looking around at complete uppers, mainly the Spike's Tactical and Rock River Arms stuff. It looks like I can get something decent for ~$550, do you have a preference on either brand at that price point?

Welcome to the site.  For that price range a real good look at BCM complete uppers.

Thanks! I have been looking at Spikes a lot. It looks like I can get a lot for ~$550 and thats right about what i want to spend. I will also check out BCM.

Also, here is a photo I took of some of my other stuff:

Welcome!
Spike's is better than RRA, IMO, but I have both and they are both fine. RRA stuff can sometimes be a little out of spec, though (nothing excessive that I've noticed).

What about your rear sight? Going with optics?

I haven't decided yet actually. I have been using an Aimpoint CompM3 but I don't even turn it on, I just flip up the sights and look through the Aimpoint. Seems kinda stupid to spend $500 on a sight that I'm not going to use.

Any recommendations?

Nice! Link to your build?

I actually just picked up a Rock River Arms complete upper with rail for $585! Looks like the build is nearing completion. actually it will never be done.

After a disaster with PayPal where they refunded my money and held it for a few days because I bought "FIrearm Parts" I was able to mail a cashiers check to a nice genteman for a Rock River Arms 16" Upper with RRA free float quad rail. It should be here late next week!! So excited.

I need to order some Magpul rails in FDE and some sights.

Magpul Ladder Rails and Magpul BUIS on the way, but I definitely need optics of some sort, it looks so naked.

I agree.  I dig the color changes on rifles...Mine is all black...Sort of boring, but tactically sound.

Super looking rifle!
