[ARCHIVED THREAD] - First Post... .223 same as 5.56?

Hey guys I am new to the AR world. I just picked up a DPMS M4. For my first question, and yes I already searched haha, can I run .223 bullets threw my 5.56 gun? I thought they were the same round just titled differently? I just spent over a 100 bucks on .223 ammo and now I'm not sure if I can use it. Any insight would be awesome! Thanks guys!

you can shoot .223 out of a 5.56 barrel fine.

don't shoot 5.56 ammo through a .223 marked barrel.

you are good to go.
