Hi Guys,
This is my first retro build so when you look at it please don't be too harsh if there is something that looks wrong. As you can see, I don't post much but I do spend time on this site most evenings to learn.  I've built modern AR's and figured it's time to try. I really like these older AR's and figure you can give me the knowledge to do another one of these.
I believe the Upper is a Colt 604. I purchased the chrome carrier sans FA notches from Fulton Armory and the lower from Nodak Spud as the XM16E1.
If you have any advice on this one please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Welcome, that is a fine looking 604 and a great first build.  Looks like you got all the details down.
Let us know how she shoots.

Good Start!  604s are my favorite.  Then A1s.  Also 605s.  I wish I never sold my 177E2.  I like waffles - original and NoDak.  The 231 upper receiver and parts have been sitting too long.......

RBRD - We're all doomed!!!

Wow, five posts in 4 years and we got two of them!

Nice start and welcome to the retro forum...now RUN AWAY!

I'm looking at doing a 604 as well and you hit your first try out of the park.

Looks just like mine, so I can hardly criticize yours, now can I?

Good job!

Very nice build.  Hope it shoots great.  Hard to go wrong with a 1-12 twist  604.

Outstanding job for first retro!
The only (minor) snag is the black mag button, but keep your eyes open for a grey one and that's a quick fix!

What lower parts kit did you use?  Did you naval jelly black stuff or find old parts?

Nice rifle.  Gotta love the simple things in life!

Thanks everyone. The lower parts are old with the exception of the hammer and trigger.. Both parts are Armalite.

Its a beauty!  604 was my first build!  Love it and it shoots great too!

And dont worry, I am sure you can stop at 1 build!  No need for a 601, C7, XM177E2, 653 or any other model.
(Yes, those were my next 4 follow my first 604... all since last Nov - I am now broke )

Perhaps you should run away...

Hey Fellas,

Is there anyone that can engrave all of the correct 604 info on this lower?   Thank you
