Hey everyone,
I've been reading and going through these forums for the last 2 days, and have been trying to absorb all the info I've been reading. Anyways I just bought a M&P15 stripped lower today, and plan on building my first ever AR15. I should have it as soon as I clear backgrounds in about 10 days. And yes I do live in dreaded "Commiefornia" so I'm pretty limited as to what I can build. I've been doing a ton of reading on here, and there are just tons of options, and I was wondering what you would recommend as far as components for my lower, and a complete upper as well, and whatever else I would need to complete this build. Thanks! |

1st things 1st: what do you want the gun to do/what are you going to do with the gun? First things first...protection. But just going to be doing casual shooting with this one. Second thing being second, what is your budget for the rest of the components you still need to purchase? |

Hopefully try and keep the whole build under $2000 if possible. |

OK, an HD/SHTF+range gun for $2,000. Are you going to build the upper as well (since you already have a stripped lower) and what, if any, are your plans for an optic? I was just gonna look for a completed upper, but if building it is cheaper then I can go that route as well. I wanted to keep it simple and just get a nice red dot or ACOG. I haven't really looked to much into optics yet. |

Well parts are scarce and you're going to find that a lot of places are on back order right now. BCM & Spike's have great quality uppers IMHO, but again, they're on back order right now. In my opinion, I'd build it from the ground up, which is what I am doing for my first build. I'm also behind "enemy lines" living in MA, so I feel your pain.
First thing I would do is go through picture thread of completed rifles to see what you like, then research the parts. It can be time consuming, but with the money you're spending, it's well worth it. -Chris |

I'd argue the first thing you should do is get very knowledgeable on the firearm laws of your state so you can stay within them.
But for an HD/ SHTF rifle, you're probably looking at 14.5" -16" barrel, probably 4150 CL since you don't seem too interested in "tack-driver" status. Also a good thing to keep in mind as you are looking at is the weight. Just my two cents. |
