So, I'm currently deployed, and planning on building a carbine when I get home. Unlike most posts here, I already have a idea of what I want to build, what materials, etc. Definitely looking more for any pointers for enriching my build, or if any of the kit I've picked out should be avoided. (First-hand experience only, sorry to be an a**, but vicarious opnions don't mean much)

The shopping list currently:

Lower Receiver-Spike's Tactical stripped lower
Trigger-ALG Defense QMS Trigger
Sights MAGPUL MBUIS Front/Rear
MAGPUL Carbine FDE Kit
White Oak Armory Lower Parts Kit
Anderson Manufacturing 16" Complete Lower

After being stuck carrying an M16A2-M203 all deployment, coming home to a nice carbine would be capital. First post here, but have been swining by to read up on review for a short while. Thanks in advance.

I see that you're considering an Anderson complete upper. I know they've had some issues here, maybe even up until recently, with their CEO/employee's setting up shill accounts and trying to drum up business. I don't know too much about the quality of their rifles, but I can say that I checked out their website many months ago and wasn't impressed. I've seen one of their complete rifles, which had an unacceptable amount of cant to the receiver extension and buttstock assembly. They have had a lot of stripped lowers floating around the market which seem to have gotten decent reviews for what it's worth.

I'm assuming you meant an Anderson complete UPPER?
I've got an Anderson receiver set and they are just fine but you could probably find a better upper from PSA for about the same $$.
Two years back an Anderson rep stepped on his dick on this and other forums following a sketchy review of a complete rifle.
There were some QC issues that needed addressed and the rep (not the customer service dept) handled it poorly. They've been dirt here ever since.
I have no idea if they have cleaned up their assembly act yet and I haven't seen anything written either way.
PSA and others have some great deals on complete uppers all the time. (Check the site sponsors)
It also depends on what you are going to use the rifle for. Hard core use, get what you can afford. Weekend plinking, budget will work.

Yes I did mean upper, and I appreciate the feedback. I am definitely in the market for a decent complete upper, and oddly enough, looked at PSA first, however their stock is rather depleted from the looks of it. I've gotten a touch spoiled, having handle mainly Colt and FN weaponry at work. Again thanks, and I suppose it's back to the drawing board.

On a side note, does anyone have any experience with Adams Arms or SAA uppers?

My first AR "build" used a complete SAA upper assembly with 16" barrel, Magpul MOE fore end and SAA-provided internals (including BCG and CH.)  With ammo costs as they are, I can't comment on durability, but fit, finish and initial operation have been above reproach.  They used an Aero Precision stripped upper w/ T-numbers and an American flag engraved on top, and the barrel is a 1 in 9 twist, but I don't know the source.  I hope this is of help to you and thanks for your service.

I just wrote a similar thread and someone showed me this deal: http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/psa-16-m4-premium-patrol-carbine-package-13944.html

I ended up going with it, pretty good deal from what I've researched, but then again, I'm new to all of this

Very nice deal, but I've already purchased two ready-built rifles and am really looking to build one now. Thanks for the input.
