If the gun will be used for any personal defense then I suggest you get the Surefire P2X Fury EAG model with a viking tactics mount.

$170 for that setup.

X300 Ultra if you want a great all around light that can be used on pretty much anything.

I like the mini scout on a larue LT752 mount that I run in upper left corner using the push button end cap on my pistol build and on my SBR I run it in the lower right with the pressure pad mounted on the top of my rail behind the front sight.

TLR-1. Inexpensive, quality piece, as bright as a weapon light needs to be. Actuating the control takes a little getting used to, but you can buy a remote tape switch for it if you want.

It will definitely help if you posted a budget, and a picture of your rifle.

For a cheap setup that really works, you cannot beat a Surefire G2 w/ Viking Tactics Light Mount
If you're looking for a high end setup- Surefire M300/M600 series scout lights are amazing.

Also, what kind of rail/handguard do you have? It would help to know what we're working with.

It's a 16" carbine. The handguard will be the moe soon
