Any advice before I take the plunge?

I am going to pick up a tactical innovations lower locally but everything else will be coming from BCM
For the upper, I'm using this 16' mid with BCMs BCG http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-16-Mid-Length-Upper-Receiver-MI-p/bcm-urg-mid-16%20mit12.htm
And then the standard M4 stock and DPMS LPK.
I'm also going to get one of the 22 conversions (spikes more than likely) so I can shoot at the local indoor.  I'll probably run it through more 22lr than 5.56 until I can relocate out of suburbia in 2years.  Is there anything i should consider now to prepare for that?  Any parts the 22 drop in bolts won’t work with?

I've always been more of a pistol guy so I guess my biggest question is what tools I should look to pick up now.  I have a small punch set and can make the taped channel-locks.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll have more questions later and I’ll keep reading up.

See I already thought of another question.

What buffer should I get?  I Read that most people are using the standard or H and that there is a fancy one from spikes but I'm not sure I understand why you would pick different weights.
Is it a user dependent issue or a gun dependent thing?

Thanks again,

If you are buying your upper complete, then aside from your punches, you will nrrd a Stock Wrench for the buffer tube castle nut (Brownell's).

As for a 22lr conversion......if you plan on shooting a lot of 22, then may i suggest getting a complete, dedicated 22 upper (we can assemble you one using spikes barrel and bolt assy).  Yes, it is a bit more money, but run better all the way around, not to mention not fouling up your gas port with lead. If you decide to runn a conversion, make sure you take the time to shoot a few rounds of 223 after done with 22, this will keep your gas system clear of lead.

As for buffers..... the standard CAR buffer will be fine (best with 22). Different weights are to help with unlock times and recoil. Basically helping with overgased systems such as SBR's and running with Silencers.

Also accuracy from a 1:7 barrel with .22 will suffer greatly.
