I picked a bad time to build an AR (started doing research in early December '12), so I spent more than I wanted to. I'm $1800 into this rifle, which includes 10 Pmags and 3 mags worth of 5.56 ammo. Once I blow through a case of ammo or so, I might start looking for a better light and optic, but what I have should serve to familiarize me with the platform.

This forum has been a great resource, thanks for everyone's contributions.

Nice build. And I will say it before someone else does, your flip up sights are on backwards! (beaten to it by a polar bear)
Nothing wrong with that light, no reason to upgrade for most use. There are MANY options for optics so see if you can't try some out before you buy =D

Yea if they're MBUS I think they're definitely backwards.

Sights backwards?

Oh well, I claim the status of AR newb on that one. Actually put them that way because I mounted the front sight first and found it more natural to hit the deploy switch that way. The button is pushed mostly down but partly at an angle away from the pivot point, and it was easier to snag it with my support hand thumb and pull down and in, rather than push down and out. I flipped the rear sight around and liked the sight picture better but am tempted to leave the front sight as is. Any reason I might not want to do that?

And so far I have not put any rounds down range. Last part came in this week, may hit the range next week.

Don't feel bad.  For some reason, 50% (estimate) of the pictures posted by newer members in the last 90 days have had backwards sights.  Not sure why, perhaps they feel that is natural, too!

Give us us the range report, and have fun!
