Well, I am off and running - and open to advice. I can see that I will do this more than once. A recent gunshow started me off and I got a DPMS lower and parts kit, and thanks to the instructions here, got it all together, and it seems just fine -- I really like the acquired knowledge and satisfaction that comes from doing this yourself. I may even save some money too. I am waiting for a DPMS collapsible stock to arrive, but was cruising my favorite gunshop today and looking their rifles over and was quite charmed by the ACE 9 inch buttstock. I must have one of these! (stop me before I go wrong!!). Will I be able to use the spring and buffer from the collapsible stock to put this on? And there is some mention of needing a standard A1/A2 receiver extension. It will probably all make a lot more sense when I have all the parts on hand, but I am ALWAYS happy to listen to what folks that know have to say. |

Ace makes a few different stocks but most people refer to the ARFX. Assuming that you are as well, it is available in two different lengths, the ARFX which uses a rifle length buffer system and the ARFX-E which uses a carbine length gas system. Ace makes good quality stocks, no matter which one you are looking at. |

Ace will require a Mil Spec extension tube. I do not know for sure if DPMS is Mil Spec or not some suppliers are, some are not CMT and LMT are as are Colt. But I have so experiance with others. The Arfx is a great alternative to the A2 and the Socom is a good collapsible. But saying that I have only used a stock CMT A2 and a Viltor Clubfoot. |
Huh? The ARFX stocks use rifle-style stocks which are all the same. No "milspec" vs "commercial" issues to worry about. And their carbine stocks all either come with a proprietery tube or use commercial spec tubes. |
