This is my first AR, although I have worked on my shotgun and AK's. At first I wanted to just buy a complete gun but with what I wanted to spend It seemed like I would have to settle for a rifle that wasn't totally what I wanted and I would end up replacing too many parts to make it mine, namely the DPMS Sportical. I wasn't too keen on building my first because experience has taught me that there is always something missing and on a gun it may be something critical. As I was reading through some posts on here to learn about the AR I stumbled across one thread that had info that piqued my curiosity. So I have found out that I can either get the Sportical for about $700......or I can get the Stag upper model 3H $449, Stag LPK $65, Stag lower $120, Stag stock kit $85......TOTAL= $719 for a complete Stag AR 15. Correct me if I am wrong but that is a heck of a deal for one of the top name manufacturers. I read through the assembly FAQ's, not thoroughly but enough to understand, and it doesn't seem nearly as difficult as I though. It is more a matter of having the right tools and aside from the AR specific tools I have all the other tools needed. In fact this seems too good to be true, which is why I wanted to consult the gurus to make sure I am not missing some $200 part that crushes my hope of an awsome AR for cheap $$$. Upper and LPK http://ar15sa.fatcow.com/store/page2.html Lower receiver http://www.stagarms.com/product_info.php?cPath=18_30&products_id=230 There is a local gun show next weekend that always has a ton of AR parts and rifles. I plan on getting the lower there so I don't have to deal with the FFL shipping. This just gives an idea. A2 Stock kit http://www.stagarms.com/index.php?cPath=19_28 What is missing for the basic rifle? I will be adding BUIS, optics, and all the other goodies but I want to make sure that if I buy just what is listed above, assemble it, and insert a mag that the rifle will fire and function as it should. I do have a question about the stock kit though. I want to get the magpul PRS stock. For this stock it says that it is a direct fit replacement for the A1/A2 fixed stock. Since I don't need the actual stock from the kit listed above is there a kit that has everything but the stock or is it cheaper to just get the kit listed. Can someone tell me what parts would be needed if I bot them without the stock? Thanks for the help |
