Hey guys I'm getting ready to build my first AR and have been looking around for parts
I found a few things and would like to know you honest unbiased opinions I found an upper package for sale that includes a few things Can you all tell me if it is a worth while purchase The seller gave me this info Price is 250 cash (local guy) This is an olympic arms upper reciever. The scope is an NC Star Mark III Tactical Scope. 3-9 X 42 with illuminated recticle milled for 5.56 rounds. The upper has had about 200 rounds through it. Never kept outside of a gun safe or gun bag. It has picatini rail fore grip for mounting hardware. 14 in barrel with mil spec compensater. Accuracy of barrel was 1 moa. Very good for AR barrels. It does not come with bolt carrier group or charging handle. Those can be purchased seperatly through Bravo Company. Reciever is in like new condition. |

Unbiased will be hard. What you'll likely hear is people telling you to avoid Olympic and buy Bravo Company. But they're the flavor of the month, and many here have drank the Flavor Aid. Good gear no doubt, but leaps and bounds beyond other manufacturers....debatable.
I've personally never owned any NC Star products, but I hear they're cheap and of questionable quality. So, if it were me, I'd save for a little more and go for a different manufacturer. |

i have been told to avoid any thing from Oly Arms for certain reasons. i have heard from some people they are crap and there have been others that have not had any probs with them. I have had no experience with them personally. 250 is a hell of a deal for all of that. the scope is cheap, but i hear its kind of hit and miss with them and works alright when you dont want to abuse your more expensive optics. |

first off, don't fall for that "only 200 rounds fired through it". I don't know what it is about the number 200, but every ad that I have seen for a used gun, has that magically 200 number. sort of like the sleazy used car salesman that says, "only driven to church and back every sunday by a little old lady".
the NcStar scope, I wouldn't even consider that as something to even consider for the totally price of the upper. it's a cheap scope. if you know for a fact that this upper works without a hitch, and does shoot 1MOA, becuase you were with him when he shot it, and saw the holes, it is something to consider in buying. if not, pass on it, OA is a hit and miss. here is what I would do, offer him 200 bucks for it. if it indeed does work and shoots those groups. |

Awesome thanks for all the tips guys
I'v been debating either building an AR or buying a Remington 700 sps The AR would get more use as a plinker/varmint/home defense/just an awesome gun in the closet The Remington would be shot a couple times a year and used for deer in Arkansas when i visit my in laws My budge is in the $600 range So if you all have any recommendations on what entry brands to look for please share |

Kinda like when people get pulled over for DUI. "I only had a couple of beers"
