I purchased and assembled the parts for a 16" m4 style rifle. The test fire did not go well!! 8 rounds through it with each round requireing a manual pull on the charging handle to chamber a new round. I knew that the gas port must be plugged, so I disassembled and found my problem. The pictures below shows what I found... with the front sight moved forward, where is the gas port?!?!?! all I can say is that the upper assembly I purchased must have been built on a Friday

Either a friday or a sunday. Whats the make of that barrel?

I don't know. The only words on the barrel are "5.56 NATO 1/9". Is there a good way to determine the manufacturer?

Not really an easy way to tell. Any company can take a blank, profile it and add an extension. The gas port is drilled when putting the extension on so they index properly.

Where exactly did you buy this from? I would suggest calling them.

I would definitely be calling...

I guess they were trying to fill backorders a little too quickly.

I wonder how many went out like this. I just removed a FSB from a buddies barrel for a build and I completely forgot to check the barrel for a gas port. I hope it cycles.

Anyway, if the company you bought it from won't help or is giving you hard time, give ar15barrels.com a shout. They can drill a new gas port for a fairly inexpensive amount of money.

Finally have this resolved. The upper was purchased from Double Star out of Winchester Ky, and they replaced with a new upper assembly. Have yet to test, but it should work now.

Thanks for the replies.
