I have been lurking this forum for a few weeks now trying to gather info for my first AR build.  I have been leaning towards a M4 style upper with removeable std. handle.  I am not sure what lower I want but I tried out some with collapseable stocks at a gunshow today and the rifle felt too "short".  I probably want a standard stock.  I would really appreciate input on brands and configerations for a AR-15.  I would like to try to keep within a $800 budget.  I would like to keep assembly minimal so I want to purchase a complete upper and lower.  Thanks in advance for the help.

If you decide to build it all yourself, you can save enough money to pay for a case of ammo on the budget you listed.

Just about any dealer in EE will have Lowers for under a $100, and there are kits from a number of places for under $500.

If you keep reading you can find detailed asembly instructions.

You have alot of choices to make, only you can decide them. Configuration, Make, Supplier.

If you want to keep it a carbine, pick up an extended length carbine buffer tube and you will pick up greater length.
