Hey guys, I'm not new to the AR, but I'm going to try and build a CAR or M4 type & need some advise. If I get a flat top with a std front sight, will this be a problem if I put a red dot on it? Will the front sight obstruct the view? What about the hi-rise flat top (RRA has 1 that has fixed rear sights as well; I like to have open sights as a backup)? Is it cheaper to go w/an already made upper or by parts [if so where(USA & quality parts)]I want to build it all myself but got 2 watch $$. Also what about a lower parts kit? I want a Hogue grip but don't need std grip and other parts (want to upgrd some w/o doubling in spare parts). Who/where is the best place to go or is it better to buy the std lower kits and moth ball these parts? What is the tapered portion of the M4 barrel fwd of the handguard for? I got more questions but I guess this is enough 4 now. 1st time I've ever posted. |

tapered section of m4 barrel is for mounting a m203 grenade launcher. most of us just think it looks cool. if you double your parts (the grip) just sell the extras on the equipment exchange. if you have a A3 flat top you will also need a riser for a red dot (what kind?) to clear the site. the aimpoint i have did not clear so i bought a canted mount (gg&g brand)and that worked great. there are cheaper mounts available though. read the forums on this site, there's tons of info. also, you cann't put a telestock, flash hider, or bayonet lug on a post ban (made aftersept 1994) lower receiver. |
