It could be a commercial -

"Pre-Owned" 16" Bushmaster............$650
6 used 30rd Orlite mags...............$ 90
250 rounds of range ammo..............$ 50
One day DNR range pass................$  3
Tagging the "Shoot-and-C"
gopher in the head from 50 yards......PRICELESS

Had a beautiful day for taking the Bushy out for the first time.  Having only shot handguns before (and one or two shotguns), I was not sure what to expect.  It is now official, I'M HOOKED!  This is way too much fun.  Looks like I am going to be buying that one year DNR range pass and looking for ammo values.  I just wish the ammo didn't go so fast with the 30 round mags.

I bought a variety pack of the "Shoot-N-C" targets.  These are neat little targets that show a BRIGHT yellow ring around your shot.  Made it really easy to get the rifle sighted in without spotting scopes or going forward to check the target.  And the cute little gopher target was just asking to be shot.  In the head.  Numerous times.

My wife is going to kill me when start spending all of our "quality" time at the range.

Dave

Does anyone else hear their AR talking to them while they shoot?  I swear, mine was saying things like, "You should really buy a scope" and "Wouldn't a bipod be nice?"  It was spooky. Not just that the gun was talking, but that what it said made sense.

May I politely suggest you dump the 30rd mags & stick with 20rd ones? You'll find that you can shoot off of a rest much better with the 20rd ones. Not to mention not burn ammo quite as quick!  >gg<

did you get a flattop or an A2?  i like the shoot-n-c targets for handguns.  very easy to correct yourself, i suck with a handgun.  people will think you're crazy for owning an AR, wait until you get the 2nd one!

Sounds like fun.
When I read about your AR talkin' to you, I was reminded of a couple of scenes from "Best in Show."  Ol' Bloodhound.  Have you seen the movie?  Very funny.

Because this is your first rifle, I'll suggest that you tone out the little voice that tells you to accessorize, and to ignore entirely the one that leads you to optics before you've "mastered" the iron sights.  Or not.  Do whatever you wish.
I agree that those targets are cool.  Plain ol' paper can be a target, but something that visibly "reacts" is always more fun, isn't it?

Be safe,
IMHO

Ah, the voice...

I hear it at night... "Take me to the range... shooooot me... come on... you know you wanna... sun is almost up... and isnt that a box of ammo next to me? ISNT IT?!?!"

But then i hear it on the way home from the range "CLEAN ME! PLEASE OH GOD CLEAN ME!" :)

I always reccomend getting 100% used to your weapon before you accessorize.  Scopes, lights, lasers, etc are all nice 'force multipliers', but if your scope breaks, your laser falls off, and your light runs outta batteries you'll be really glad you got used to the good ol trusty-but-rusty iron sights :)

I refused to buy a scope till i could reliably hit the 400m target at the range, it was a nice goal, and i can still nail that bad boy...

The Bushy is an A2 model, it was barely past the break-in point when the previous owner sold it to pay some bills.

I like the 30rnd mags.  Maybe I'll just load them with 20.  Or buy more ammo [:D]

I discovered the shoot-n-c targets last year when I was teaching a handful of gun-shy relatives how to shoot handguns.  Immediate visual feedback made for a fun learning experience.  I just wish they made silhouette targets.

As far as optics go, I will probably never get a scope on it, as this will join my home defense arsenal.  At the most, I will pobably mount a flashlight to it.

Dave

Well, the AR started talking to me in my sleep last night.  Looks like I am going to have to take it shooting in order to shut it up.

I too just bought my first bushy. It talks to me also and it wins the arguments. I have put a scope and a bipod on it already.
