Tell me what you think.  Am I forgetting anything?  Or are there other things I should consider?

Welcome to AR15.com.  I would go with a BCM BCG and save you $30.00.  And I would check the EE and see if you can find some of the parts there.  I got my new LaRue LT15-10 handguard for $250.00.

definitely are paying premium prices for some of your items there.  as was said, check the EE for parts and also shop around on prices.. some of your stuff is ridiculously over priced

you shouldn't pay more than $120 on your BCG right now.. you have many options.

definitely buy your stock kit on the EE.. if a M4 style stock is all you want you can ALWAYS find cheap ones there.

I would go with a WOA barrel from rainer for your price range.. or step it up a bit and get a noveske, justify the extra cost of the noveske by the money you save smart shopping.

If you end up getting a CMV barrel i would skip the CHF barrel and just get a cut rifled one.

Thanks for the info.  I really don't want to go with the m4 stock, but I also cant justify spending $250 on the stock that I want.
This one.

Also, regarding barrels.  WOA?  CHF: Cold Hammer forged?  CMV?

WOA: White Oak Armament?

Well are you looking to go cheaper or for a certain look?

You can get a quality lower for less, a upper for less rails for less, LPK and BCG for less and be able to swing the stock you want.

You can find the Magpul UBR for $199.95 at Aim. Use coupon codes listed here. Definitely take a look on EE, lots of great deals.

here is another option for a stock kit, includes everything you need for a collapsible stock for $65.00 and its mil-spec too

The rifle from parts you have listed doesn't look like it's worth that estimated cost. That basic level of functionality looks like it can be achieved using a $800-1000 budget, not a $1600.

The LPK choice is a bit expensive- you can often find a complete RRA 2 Stage NM LPK for $110; an extra $30 for a huge upgrade to the trigger

The M15 Buttstock kit is overpriced; BCM has a similar for $69. You can buy a comm-spec stock for even less.

That MUR-1A upper is pointless, a $90 Bravo Company Upper will do the job just as well.

Aimsurplus has a Spikes Chrome BCG for $139- which makes your DD $169 BCG look overpriced.

$39 for a CH...? Unless its a gasbuster/VLTOR one, that's... pointless...

Get a Troy TRX Extreme handguard for $190, which is a lot lighter than the DD M4 guards.

$175 for a MI BUIS set also feels overpriced, but that's a more personal choice. IMO, a $80 Magpul set will do just fine.

––what I'm trying to show is that you can get *better* components for less if you just shop around; I'm not necessarily criticizing your chosen components as poor, just saying there's better alternatives.

You can find much better quality parts for cheaper than what you have listed.. right off the bat ill say you can find UBRs for under $200 with a little searching.. even cheaper used.  Same for the rails, you need to do some more price huntin it looks like!

Check BCM, Rainier Arms, MidwayUSA, Brownells, few others.. for deals.

I understand completely.  This is exactly the kind of information that I was looking for.

Also, if you are getting everything from parts- you will need about $100 of tools to put it together, so you will need to figure that into your costs.

What kind of higher quality parts for cheaper?  I thought I was dealing with pretty high quality stuff already...

I don't mean to be a prick, but...

YOU ARE WAYYYYYYY TO ANAL about the spread sheet.

Lighten up francis!  building is FUN!!!

Enjoy it, do get too hung up on the deatils that you loose sight of the finish...

A FUCKING great Black rifle!!!!!!

This is about preparedness and enjoyment. They go hand in hand.

I think I will be good on tools.  I have a whole shop full.  Anything I don't have I can make.

One more important point.

Building your own IS NOT ABOUT SAVING MONEY!

Yes you can do that. but the pleasure of building your own is so much better than saving money.

This is a tool, an instrument that, and judging by the way things are going (and nobody will say otherwise) can and might be used to defend this country from within.

It also might fall in the category of "We are going to take that away from you.."

ALL very good reasons to have fun and do it right, NOT necessarily cheap.

If you are serious about this then do it for yourself, not your checkbook.

Are you suggesting he install a Full Auto BCG in a Semi Auto?

Absolutely! And LMT makes top notch bolts.

These rifles were meant to have a full auto BCG. Thats the way Stoner built it.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the installation of a Full Auto BCG kind of a NFA no no? I was under the impression that you could ONLY possess and use a FABCG if you had a RLR or a RDIAS. Am I wrong?

$183 for a stripped lower??? what makes the noveske worth the extra

M16 BCG's are the only M16 item you can legally own without any kind of paperwork. most rifles come with one

the only thing i see that you left out would be, maybe a sling, and a case to put it in, good cleaning kit (w/bore giude), Magazines and any othe accesaries that would come to mind. these are things you will need to end up buying and should be considered in a budget, that most people leave out and then  wonder how they ended up spending more then they aimed for...

BUT most important is the shipping cost...  shipping can really add up especially when your ordering from muiltiple venders...  i like the spreadsheet, and it IS a good idea to see how much you got into a build befor you start, that way you can determine if that 40 charging handle is really what you want, when most run about 15-20...
its nice to have everything in front of you writting down that way you can juggle differant options around and get a finnished product that your gonna love at a price you can live with..!   i do the same thing. just on a writting down on a spiral notebook, instead of typing out a spreadsheet...  but same concept...  i feel, its good idea, that way you can see everything in front of you, and it helps in the dessesion making process, befor you start ordering...

another thing....     build the rifle you want, if you want a danial defense $40 charging handle... so be it..!! your the one thats gonna be pulling that thing back to rack it... if knowing that it is a Danial Defense charging handle gonna make you feel better when you rack that thing, then its worth the money.  make sure that your gonna luv your rifle and that you do not have any regrets or doubts about your components, it will make you shoot better...!!!

Full auto BCG's are actually quite popular, people reportedly like the extra weight, and theres a little debate as to if its more reliable than a semi-auto BCG.

BCM gunfighter charging handles with extended latches for support-hand-only operation are VERY popular for around 45 dollars

I made a spreadsheet for my first build, too. It helped me to figure out that it's very difficult to save more than a few bucks by building an upper. If you are going that route, though, you really should check out Palmetto State Armory. They come highly recommended by people with more knowledge than myself, and their prices are very reasonable. LPKs are as low as $43, and a CH is $10 if you buy a BCG (for as little as $110, chrome-lined.)

Just to give you a heads up, most Daniel Defense parts you are going to have to wait for.  I'm just now finally getting my DD upper I ordered and paid for  over 5 months ago.  Will most likely be the last thing I every buy from them...
