Hey guys.  With the help of all of you I started on my first AR build.  This site is friggin awesome.  I got a Spikes Tactical Spider lower, DPMS parts kit, and DPMS 6 way adjustable stock and had it all assembled in 45 minutes for the first time with a small tack hammer and a set of punches.  Only problem was I only had 45 minutes worth of fun.  Some much more intimidating than it really is.

I have started shopping for the upper assembly now.  As you can tell, I am trying to keep this one on a budget with everything and then the next one will be a high dollar build.  This gun will spend more time at the range than anything else.  Just looking to have some fun running some ammo through it.  I am really looking at the DPMS oracle upper for the first build.  Oracle.  Any reviews of this would be great.  Do you guys think this will fit the bill?

I'd suggest THIS or THIS...

10x the upper and less money to boot.

Welcome to the disease!

Would you prefer a free float quad rail or a free float tube? I personally prefer rail or tube over the plastic grips seeing how the Oracle does not 'free float' the barrel.

I prefer rails and tubes also because you can get them in any length you prefer. With a low profile gas block your rail or tube can extend beyond the block for more room for your hand or resting on a bench. Just my personal preference. Assembling an upper receiver is not hard at all. The hardest part is shopping for the parts (which isn't that hard either).

Wasnt sure how the large A2 front sight would be with a red dot or other scope installed.  Thats the only reason I went with a flat top upper.

Some people prefer to have a fixed front sight. I don't. I like to use optics and have front & rear flip sights for backup. I like to attach my front flip sight to the front of the quad rail hand guard. You could attach a flip front sight to the railed gas block, but I just prefer not to.

For your first AR, I'd recommend you go with a fixed front sight and a magpul MBUS on the rear.  Use a red dot and wring it out.

PSA has some good deals on complete uppers.  Hell, if you plan on engaging targets farther out maybe a 20" flat top upper would be the trick.  Make it similar to the Canadians and run the 20" upper with a M4 stock.

The A2 sight will be a non-issue with a red dot or a scope.
